Akrapovic Titanium Slip-On Exhaust – Mercedes-Benz CLE 53 4MATIC+ | C236 Coupé / A236 Cabriolet | 2024–2026 | S-ME/T/16H

Fits 2024–2026 Mercedes-Benz CLE 53 4MATIC+ in both Coupé (C236) and Cabriolet (A236) body styles. Slip-on system — retains factory catalytic converters and mid-pipes. Factory O2 sensors and emissions compliance are maintained. Not for CLE 300, CLE 350, or CLE 63 variants. Confirm your specific model year and AMG designation before ordering. Professional installation recommended.

Akrapovic S-ME/T/16H titanium slip-on exhaust system for the 2024–2026 Mercedes-Benz CLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupé (C236) and Cabriolet (A236). Hand-fabricated in Slovenia from aerospace-grade titanium — replacing the factory muffler section with Akrapovic’s characteristic hand-formed titanium bodies, precision TIG-welded construction, and titanium exhaust tips. Significant reduction in muffler weight. Enhanced exhaust note across the AMG M256 inline-6’s full RPM range. Factory catalytic converters retained. Ships fast across Canada and the US.

Slip-On System — What It Replaces and What It Retains

Understanding what a slip-on system does and does not modify is essential for CLE 53 buyers evaluating the Akrapovic range:

  • What is replaced: The factory muffler section(s) — the rear portion of the exhaust system from the factory connection point rearward. On the CLE 53’s quad-outlet exhaust layout, the Akrapovic slip-on replaces the two factory muffler assemblies with titanium units, retaining the connection points to the factory mid-pipe.
  • What is retained: The factory catalytic converters, downpipes, and mid-pipe sections. All factory O2 sensors and lambda probes remain in place. The emissions and OBD compliance of the vehicle is maintained — no check engine light, no catalyst deletion codes.
  • Installation complexity: Significantly simpler than a full Evolution or Racing Line system. No removal of front exhaust sections, no cat replacement, no O2 sensor management required. The slip-on connects at the factory mid-pipe interface points and is retained by the factory hangers and the supplied Akrapovic hardware.
  • Sound character: The primary benefit of the slip-on over the factory system is exhaust note enhancement. The Akrapovic titanium muffler bodies are less restrictive than the factory units and produce the characteristic AMG inline-6 exhaust note at higher volume and with greater clarity, particularly in the mid-to-high RPM range where the M256’s electric compressor and twin-scroll turbo are producing full boost. The OPF/GPF (particulate filter) fitted to the M256 in most markets limits low-RPM sound — the Akrapovic slip-on works with the factory particulate filter in place.
  • Power gains: Modest — the retained factory cats and mid-pipe limit peak flow improvement relative to a full system. The slip-on is not the correct choice if headline power numbers are the primary objective. It is the correct choice for emissions compliance, sound enhancement, and weight reduction without invasive modification.

Titanium Construction — Akrapovic’s Manufacturing Standard

Akrapovic’s automotive exhaust systems are hand-fabricated in Ivančna Gorica, Slovenia — the same facility that produces Akrapovic’s MotoGP, WSBK, and factory racing exhaust systems. The S-ME/T/16H uses aerospace-grade titanium throughout:

  • Titanium muffler bodies: Hand-formed titanium shells — each unit shaped and welded individually by Akrapovic’s fabricators. The characteristic blue and gold heat-tint at TIG weld seams is a visible indicator of genuine titanium construction and the temperature profile of the welding process. Not a cosmetic treatment — it is the natural result of titanium oxide formation during welding in a shielding gas environment.
  • Weight reduction: Titanium’s density is approximately 60% that of steel at equivalent strength. The Akrapovic titanium mufflers are significantly lighter than the factory steel units — reducing unsprung-adjacent rear weight and improving the CLE 53’s overall weight distribution marginally. For a vehicle at ~2,100 kg kerb, the absolute weight saving is modest but contributes to the overall character of the exhaust system as a premium upgrade.
  • Titanium exhaust tips: The visible exhaust tips are titanium — not stainless or chrome-plated. Titanium tips develop a subtle blue-gold patina with heat cycling, distinguishing them visually from stainless alternatives. The tip geometry on the S-ME/T/16H is matched to the CLE 53’s factory diffuser and bumper aperture design.
  • Precision TIG welding: All joints are TIG-welded by hand to Akrapovic’s aerospace manufacturing tolerance standard. Consistent, clean welds with no filler material visible externally.

AMG M256 3.0L Inline-6 — Platform Context

The CLE 53 4MATIC+ uses Mercedes-AMG’s M256 engine — a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-6 with integrated 48V EQ Boost mild hybrid system and electric compressor (EQB):

  • 449 hp / 516 lb-ft factory output (AMG-tuned M256 specification for the CLE 53 4MATIC+)
  • Electric compressor: The EQB electric compressor eliminates turbo lag below the primary twin-scroll turbocharger’s effective RPM range. This means the M256 builds boost and exhaust flow from very low RPM — the Akrapovic slip-on’s sound enhancement is audible across a broader RPM range than a comparable slip-on on a conventional turbocharged engine.
  • 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive: Standard on the CLE 53 — rear-biased AWD with torque vectoring. The slip-on system has no interaction with the 4MATIC+ drivetrain.
  • OPF/GPF particulate filter: The M256 in CLE 53 spec is fitted with an Ottopartikelfilter (gasoline particulate filter) in most markets. The factory particulate filter is retained with the slip-on system. Sound enhancement is present but the OPF limits overall exhaust volume relative to older AMG platforms without particulate filters.

C236 Coupé and A236 Cabriolet

The S-ME/T/16H fits both CLE 53 body styles:

  • C236 Coupé (2024–2026): The CLE Coupé replaced both the C-Class Coupé (C205) and E-Class Coupé (C238) in Mercedes-Benz’s lineup — a single mid-size luxury coupé positioned between the A-Class and S-Class Coupé. The 53 badge indicates AMG Performance specification.
  • A236 Cabriolet (2024–2026): The soft-top convertible variant of the CLE. Shares the same rear exhaust section architecture as the Coupé, allowing a common Akrapovic slip-on application across both body styles.

Slip-on system — retains factory cats and mid-pipe. 2024–2026 Mercedes-Benz CLE 53 4MATIC+ C236 Coupé and A236 Cabriolet only. Not for CLE 300, 350, or 63. Titanium construction, hand-fabricated in Slovenia. Factory O2 sensors and emissions compliance maintained. Professional installation recommended.
