6V Lithium for Classic Vehicles

6V electrical systems were standard on most motorcycles and scooters produced before the late 1960s, and on many automobiles produced before the mid-1960s. Classic British motorcycles (BSA, Triumph, Norton, AJS, Matchless), early Japanese bikes (Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki pre-1970s), vintage scooters (Vespa, Lambretta), and pre-1966 classic cars commonly ran 6V systems. While many of these vehicles have been converted to 12V over the years, original-spec builds and restorations maintaining the factory 6V system benefit significantly from a modern lithium replacement over the original lead-acid technology.

Weight Advantage

A traditional 6V lead-acid battery of equivalent capacity weighs 10–20 lbs. The AG-1202 weighs 2.8 lbs — a weight saving of 7–17 lbs on a vintage build where weight reduction is both a performance and handling benefit. The compact small case dimensions also allow fitment in battery boxes where a modern lead-acid equivalent would not fit.

LiFePO4 Construction

Antigravity uses lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) cell chemistry — stable, thermally safe, and well-suited to the charge and discharge characteristics of vintage vehicle electrical systems, including older generators and regulators. LiFePO4 cells maintain a more consistent voltage under load than lead-acid and hold a charge significantly longer during storage between rides or show seasons.

Charging Compatibility

A 6V-compatible lithium battery charger is required. Standard 12V automotive or motorcycle battery chargers will overcharge and damage a 6V lithium battery. Confirm your charger is rated for 6V lithium (LiFePO4) before connecting. If your vehicle’s charging system (generator or alternator) has been tuned for lead-acid, verify output voltage is appropriate for lithium charging — some vintage regulators may require adjustment.
