One-Piece Aluminium — Replaces Two-Piece Factory Shaft

The factory Fox Body Mustang uses a two-piece steel driveshaft with a rubber-isolated centre support bearing. On high-power builds, the centre support bearing is a well-documented failure point — the rubber isolator degrades under sustained high-power use and introduces driveline vibration before eventual failure. DSS’s one-piece aluminium shaft eliminates the centre bearing entirely by spanning the full driveshaft length as a single tube, removing that failure point from the drivetrain. The aluminium construction is lighter than the factory steel assembly, reducing rotating mass for improved throttle response and lower parasitic drivetrain loss.

3.5" Diameter — 600HP Rated

The 3.5" tube diameter provides greater torsional stiffness than the factory shaft diameter, resisting wind-up under the high torque loads generated by built 302/347/363/408ci stroker, supercharged, or nitrous-assisted 5.0 applications. DSS rates the FDSH6 to 600HP — appropriate for the majority of high-power Fox Body street and strip builds. Applications exceeding 600HP at the wheels should contact DSS for a higher-rated shaft option.

1330 U-Joint Series

The FDSH6 uses 1330 series U-joints at both ends — a larger and stronger joint than the factory 1310 series used on stock Fox Bodies. The 1310 joint is a known failure point on modified cars generating sustained high torque, particularly at the rear axle end under hard launches. The 1330 upgrade provides the joint strength margin necessary for sustained high-power use.

The 1330 U-joint requires compatible 1330-series yokes at both the transmission output and rear differential pinion. Stock Fox Body T-5 and rear axle yokes are typically 1310 series — if your car retains the factory yokes, both the transmission slip yoke and rear diff pinion yoke will need to be upgraded to 1330 series before this shaft can be installed. Confirm yoke series at both ends before ordering.
