6-Point Harness Configuration:

A 6-point harness uses six attachment points to restrain the driver: two shoulder belts (over each shoulder), two lap belts (across each hip), and two sub-belt or crotch straps (between the legs). The 6-point configuration provides superior restraint compared to 5-point harnesses by using two separate crotch straps rather than one, distributing the sub-belt load more evenly and reducing the risk of the driver submarining (sliding under the lap belt) in a frontal impact. The 6-point configuration is required or preferred by many sanctioning bodies for higher-speed competition.

CAMLOCK Centre Release Buckle:

The CAMLOCK buckle is the industry-standard centre release mechanism for racing harnesses. All six harness straps connect to a single central buckle, and a single twist-and-pull motion releases all straps simultaneously for rapid egress in an emergency. The CAMLOCK design is intuitive and reliable, allowing the driver to exit the vehicle quickly after an incident. The buckle is designed to withstand the loads generated in a crash while remaining operable for emergency release. CAMLOCK buckles are required by most sanctioning bodies for closed-cockpit competition.

Pull-Down (PD) Lap Belt Adjustment:

The pull-down lap belt adjustment system allows the driver to tighten the lap belts by pulling downward on the adjustment tails, which is ergonomically natural and easy to do while seated in the car. This is the most common lap belt adjustment style for racing harnesses. Proper lap belt tightness is critical for harness effectiveness — the lap belts should be tight across the hip bones (iliac crests), not across the soft abdomen. Loose lap belts allow the driver to submarine under the belt in a frontal impact, significantly reducing the harness's protective effectiveness.

HNR/HANS Device Compatibility:

The harness is compatible with head and neck restraint (HNR) devices, including the HANS (Head And Neck Support) device. HNR devices are designed to limit head and neck movement in a frontal impact, reducing the risk of basilar skull fracture — a serious injury that can occur when the head continues moving forward after the body is restrained by the harness. When using an HNR device, the shoulder belts must be routed through the HNR device's tether clips before connecting to the CAMLOCK buckle. HNR devices are required by most sanctioning bodies for closed-cockpit competition and are strongly recommended for all track use.

SFI Certification:

The harness carries SFI certification, indicating it has been tested and certified to meet the SFI Foundation's safety standards for racing harnesses. SFI certifications are time-limited — the certification tag on the harness will show the expiry date, and the harness must be replaced or recertified before the expiry date to remain eligible for competition. Many sanctioning bodies require current SFI certification for harnesses used in competition. Always check the certification tag before each season and replace the harness before the certification expires.

Proper Harness Installation:

A racing harness is only as effective as its installation. The shoulder belts must be mounted at the correct downward angle (typically 10-20 degrees below horizontal from the shoulder to the mounting point) to prevent the belts from riding up over the shoulders in a crash. Mounting the shoulder belts too high (above horizontal) can cause the belts to load the neck rather than the shoulders in a crash. The lap belts must be mounted at the correct angle to load the hip bones rather than the abdomen. The crotch straps must be mounted to the chassis floor directly below the driver. All mounting hardware must be rated for the loads generated in a crash. Professional installation by someone experienced with racing harness installation is strongly recommended.
