KW Variant 3 (V3) Coilover Kit with EDC Bundle – 2011–2016 BMW 5 Series F10 Sedan | AWD xDrive | 35220-8BE

AWD (xDrive) only — not for RWD F10 5 Series. This kit is engineered for the F10 5 Series with xDrive all-wheel drive. RWD F10 models use different front suspension geometry and require a separate KW part number. Additionally, this listing includes the EDC (Electronic Damper Control) cancellation kit — required for F10 models equipped with the factory Adaptive Drive / EDC optional damping system. If your F10 does not have factory EDC, the standard KW V3 for F10 (without EDC bundle) is the correct product. Confirm both AWD and EDC fitment before ordering.

KW Variant 3 (V3) coilover kit with Electronic Damper Control (EDC) cancellation bundle for the 2011–2016 BMW F10 5 Series Sedan with xDrive AWD. Fully independently adjustable compression and rebound damping via KW’s patented TVC-A and TVR-A technology. Inox-line stainless steel construction throughout. Made in Germany. Includes KW’s plug-in EDC cancellation module to eliminate chassis fault codes on EDC-equipped F10s. 61.73 lbs. Ships fast across Canada and the US.

EDC Bundle — What It Is and Why It’s Required

The F10 5 Series was available with an optional Electronic Damper Control (EDC) system — BMW’s electronically adjustable adaptive damping, typically included as part of the Adaptive Drive or M Sport suspension option packages. EDC-equipped F10s have electronically controlled dampers with position sensors that communicate continuously with the chassis DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) module:

  • The problem: Installing conventional coilovers on an EDC-equipped F10 removes the factory EDC dampers and their sensors. The chassis module detects the missing signals and triggers persistent warning lights (suspension, DSC, stability control), fault codes, and in some cases disables or degrades stability and traction control function. The vehicle is still drivable but the fault state is persistent and cannot be cleared without restoring the EDC signal.
  • The solution: KW’s EDC cancellation kit plugs directly into the factory EDC wiring harness connectors at each corner and provides the correct resistance and signal to the chassis module — eliminating all EDC-related fault codes. The cancellation kit is a plug-in solution; no ECU coding, no flashing, and no ISTA programming is required.
  • Non-EDC F10 owners: If your F10 5 Series was not equipped with factory EDC (the standard non-Adaptive suspension), you do not need this EDC bundle. Installing it on a non-EDC car is harmless but you are paying for hardware you do not need. The standard KW V3 for F10 without EDC bundle is the appropriate product for non-EDC vehicles.

To confirm whether your F10 has EDC: check the factory window sticker or Monroney label for “Adaptive Drive” or “Electronic Damper Control.” Alternatively, inspect the existing dampers for a wiring connector at each strut/shock body — EDC-equipped dampers have a wiring harness connector at the top of the damper body. Standard non-EDC dampers do not.

KW Variant 3 — Independent Compression and Rebound Adjustment

The V3 is KW’s flagship street and performance coilover, distinguished from the V1 (fixed damping) and V2 (rebound-only adjustment) by its independently adjustable compression and rebound:

  • TVR-A (rebound adjustment): KW’s patented rebound damping adjustment technology. Rebound controls how quickly the damper extends after compression — slower rebound keeps the tyre in contact with the road surface longer after an impact, improving grip. Faster rebound responds more quickly to undulations at speed. The TVR-A system provides a wide adjustment range to tune rebound independently of compression.
  • TVC-A (compression adjustment): KW’s patented compression damping adjustment. Compression controls resistance as the damper is pushed in — affecting body roll, nose dive under braking, and squat under acceleration. Increasing compression stiffens the body motion response; reducing it improves compliance over rough surfaces without altering the rebound calibration.
  • Why independent adjustment matters: On a coilover with linked compression and rebound (common in entry-level adjustable systems), stiffening one necessarily affects the other — limiting the achievable setup range. The V3’s independent adjustment allows, for example, increasing compression to reduce body roll in cornering while keeping rebound soft enough to maintain tyre contact over track surface irregularities — a setup combination that produces genuine grip improvement rather than simply a stiffer overall feel.
  • Ride height adjustment: Lowering is achieved via threaded spring perch adjustment on the strut body — independent of damper travel, preserving the designed damper stroke at the chosen ride height.

Inox-Line Stainless Construction

KW’s Inox-Line designation indicates stainless steel damper bodies and hardware throughout. On a daily-driven or year-round vehicle like the F10, stainless construction resists the corrosion from road salt, moisture, and brake dust that degrades conventional steel coilover bodies over time. German-manufactured to KW’s OEM-level tolerances.

F10 5 Series AWD Application Coverage

The 35220-8BE covers the 2011–2016 BMW F10 5 Series Sedan with xDrive AWD, including:

  • 528i xDrive (2012–2016)
  • 535i xDrive (2011–2016)
  • 550i xDrive (2012–2016)

F10 Touring (wagon/estate) models and Gran Turismo (F07) are not covered by this part number. Sedan only. Confirm your vehicle’s body style, drivetrain (xDrive), and EDC equipment status before ordering.

AWD xDrive F10 only — not for RWD. EDC-equipped F10 only — includes plug-in EDC cancellation module. 2011–2016 F10 Sedan. Independent compression and rebound adjustment. Inox-line stainless. Made in Germany. No ECU coding required for EDC cancellation.
