How It Works — Activated Carbon Vapour Trapping

Fuel tanks and fuel cells must vent to atmosphere to equalise pressure as fuel is consumed and as ambient temperature changes cause vapour expansion. Unfiltered vent lines allow fuel vapour (hydrocarbon gases) to escape freely — creating the characteristic fuel smell that is particularly noticeable when a vehicle is stored in an enclosed space. The Radium 20-1827-00 installs in-line with the vent hose between the fuel tank or cell vent fitting and the vent line’s atmosphere exit point. Activated carbon inside the canister adsorbs fuel vapour molecules from the airstream passing through the canister during pressure equalisation events, releasing clean air to atmosphere while retaining the hydrocarbons in the carbon media. Air flow is not impeded — the tank or cell vents and breathes normally. Only the vapour content is captured.

Compact Design — Fits Tight Spaces

At 5.25 x 3.25 x 1.28 inches, the Radium canister is significantly more compact than OEM-style EVAP canisters, making it practical for installation in engine bays with limited space, under-car routing along fuel cell vent lines, boot/trunk-mounted fuel cell builds, and any application where a standard-sized canister cannot be packaged. Machined aluminium construction is lightweight and durable — resistant to fuel, heat, and vibration in an automotive environment.

10AN ORB Female Ports — Adapter Fittings Required

The canister has two 10AN O-ring boss (ORB) female ports — one inlet, one outlet — for vent hose connection. 10AN ORB is a standard AN fitting interface common in performance fuel systems. Adapter fittings to connect your specific vent hose diameter or fitting type are sold separately. Source the appropriate 10AN ORB male to hose barb, 10AN ORB to AN hose end, or similar adapters based on your vent hose specification before installation.

Fully Serviceable

The Radium 20-1827-00 is designed to be disassembled and the activated carbon media replaced when saturated. Carbon media has a finite adsorption capacity — once fully saturated, it can no longer trap additional vapour and must be replaced to restore function. Serviceability makes this canister a long-term, low-running-cost solution compared to sealed disposable alternatives. Replacement carbon media is available separately from Radium Engineering.
