VTA vs VTE — What This Converts

Radium’s competition catch cans are designed in VTA (vent-to-atmosphere) configuration for dedicated race and track use — after separating oil mist from crankcase gases, the cleaned gas vents directly to atmosphere. VTA is the preferred setup for pure race applications: no restriction, maximum simplicity, maximum separation efficiency.

However, VTA is not street legal in most jurisdictions. Emissions regulations require crankcase gases to be recirculated back into the engine’s intake system (closed crankcase ventilation / CCV / PCV) rather than vented to atmosphere. The 20-1773 adapter converts the VTA catch can to a VTE (vent-to-engine) recirculating configuration — the catch can still separates oil mist from the crankcase gases, but instead of venting to atmosphere, the cleaned gas is routed back to the intake via the two -10 AN ORB ports. This maintains the emissions-required closed CCV loop while retaining the oil separation benefit of the catch can.

-10 AN ORB Ports

The adapter plate provides two -10 AN ORB (O-ring boss) ports. ORB fittings use a face-sealing O-ring rather than tapered pipe threads — providing a reliable, leak-free connection without thread sealant. -10 AN is a substantial port size, accommodating high crankcase gas flow volumes without restriction. Two ports allow flexible routing — both can be used to connect to different intake points (for example, pre-throttle body and intake manifold, or two intake ports on a boosted application), or one port can be used and the other capped.
