AMS Performance Red Alpha Race Heat Exchanger | Infiniti Q50 / Q60 VR30DDTT | ALP.28.02.0004-1
AMS Performance Red Alpha Race Heat Exchanger – Infiniti Q50 / Q60 VR30DDTT | ALP.28.02.0004-1
AMS Performance Red Alpha Race heat exchanger for the Infiniti Q50 (2016+) and Q60 (2017+) with the VR30DDTT 3.0L twin-turbo V6. Upgraded front-mounted heat exchanger with a significantly larger core than the factory unit — designed for high-power VR30 builds where the stock heat exchanger becomes the limiting factor in intercooler cooling system performance. 11.8 lbs.
The Role of the Heat Exchanger in the VR30 Intercooler System
The VR30DDTT uses a water-to-air intercooler system. Charge air from the turbos is cooled by passing through an intercooler core in the intake manifold, with a dedicated coolant loop carrying heat away from that core. The heat exchanger is the front-mounted radiator that rejects heat from the intercooler coolant to the atmosphere — ambient air flowing through the heat exchanger cools the intercooler coolant before it cycles back to the intercooler core. The heat exchanger is where the system ultimately dumps heat to the outside air.
At stock power levels, the factory heat exchanger is adequate. As power increases — through a tune, port injection, upgraded turbos, E85, or any combination — the heat load on the intercooler system increases proportionally. If the heat exchanger cannot reject heat fast enough, intercooler coolant temperatures rise, the intercooler core becomes less effective, and charge air temperatures climb regardless of other upgrades to the system. On high-power VR30 builds, the factory heat exchanger is the thermal bottleneck that limits what the rest of the intercooler system can achieve.
AMS Red Alpha Race Heat Exchanger
AMS’s Race heat exchanger replaces the factory unit with a significantly larger core — greater surface area and increased coolant flow capacity for substantially higher heat rejection. On builds where the intercooler coolant temperatures are climbing under sustained load or repeated runs, the upgraded heat exchanger restores the system’s ability to keep intercooler coolant cool, which in turn keeps charge air temperatures low and power output consistent. This is the correct upgrade for any VR30 build running elevated power levels where intercooler coolant temperatures have been identified as a limiting factor.
The Full AMS VR30 Intercooler Cooling System
The Red Alpha Race heat exchanger is the third component in AMS’s complete VR30 intercooler cooling ecosystem, working alongside:
- Red Alpha Auxiliary Intercooler Water Pump Kit (ALP.28.02.0003-1) — adds a second intercooler pump for increased coolant flow rate (non-Red Sport vehicles)
- Red Alpha Auxiliary Intercooler Coolant Tank (ALP.30.02.0001-1) — adds 1.5+ gallons of coolant volume for increased thermal mass
- Red Alpha Race Heat Exchanger (this part) — upgrades the front heat exchanger for maximum heat rejection capacity
Each component addresses a different constraint in the intercooler system. For maximum performance on high-power builds, all three are recommended together.
Fitment
- 2016+ Infiniti Q50 — VR30DDTT 3.0L twin-turbo
- 2017+ Infiniti Q60 — VR30DDTT 3.0L twin-turbo
- Compatible with Red Sport and non-Red Sport trim
Professional installation recommended — involves front bumper removal and intercooler coolant system plumbing. Bleed intercooler coolant loop thoroughly after installation. Verify fitment and hose routing against AMS installation instructions before ordering. Compatible with both Red Sport and non-Red Sport VR30DDTT vehicles.
