Clutch Masters 850 Series Twin Disc Race Clutch Kit – 2010–2012 Camaro SS LS3 | Steel Flywheel & HRB | 04175-TD8R-SH
Conversion kit — OEM flywheel is not retained. This kit replaces the factory Camaro SS flywheel entirely. It will not function with the OEM flywheel — the Clutch Masters steel flywheel included in this kit is required for correct operation. Fits 2010, 2011, and 2012 Camaro SS with LS3 6.2L V8 and TR6060 6-speed manual transmission only — not for 2013+ Camaro SS. Professional installation and drivetrain experience required for twin disc clutch setup and adjustment.
Clutch Masters 04175-TD8R-SH — 850 Series twin disc race clutch kit for the 2010–2012 Chevrolet Camaro SS LS3/TR6060. Approximately 850 lb-ft peak torque capacity. Complete kit includes twin disc clutch assembly, Clutch Masters steel flywheel, and matched hydraulic release bearing (HRB). The top-tier Clutch Masters race clutch for high-power Camaro SS builds — forced induction, high-compression naturally aspirated race engines, and drag applications. 30 lbs. Ships fast across Canada and the US.
850 Series — Is This the Right Clutch for Your Build?
Clutch Masters offers multiple clutch stages for the Camaro SS LS3/TR6060. The 850 Series twin disc is the highest-capacity option and is appropriate for a specific range of builds:
- 850 Series Twin Disc (this listing) — ~850 lb-ft capacity: For Camaro SS builds making significantly more torque than stock. Supercharged LS3 builds (Magnuson TVS2300, Whipple 2.9L, Edelbrock E-Force) in the 600–800+ whp range, turbo LS3 builds, high-compression N/A race engines, and nitrous applications. If your build is projected to exceed 600–650 lb-ft at the flywheel, the 850 Series twin disc is the appropriate spec.
- Lower-stage single disc options: For lightly modified or street-driven Camaro SS builds (Stage 1 through FX400), a single disc clutch provides more linear street engagement with adequate torque capacity for most bolt-on modifications. Single disc options are better suited to daily-driven or dual-purpose builds where drive quality is a priority.
The 850 Series twin disc is a dedicated race and high-power performance clutch. It is not recommended as a street-only replacement — twin disc engagement characteristics require driver adaptation and the kit is optimised for performance use rather than low-speed traffic engagement.
Twin Disc System — How It Works and What to Expect
Twin disc (dual disc) clutch systems use two friction disc assemblies separated by a floater plate, all clamped between the flywheel and pressure plate:
- Higher torque capacity, lower pedal effort: Distributing clamping load across two friction surfaces doubles the effective friction area, allowing the 850 Series to handle significantly more torque than a single disc at equivalent or lower pedal effort than a single-disc clutch with comparable capacity.
- Faster engagement response: The twin disc system engages more quickly and decisively than a single disc at equivalent capacity — preferred for drag launches, track day starts, and race heel-toe downshifts where precise, rapid clutch action is critical.
- Engagement feel — driver adaptation required: Twin disc clutches engage in a narrower window than street single disc clutches. The engagement is more “on/off” in character, particularly at low speeds. Drivers transitioning from a stock or Stage 1/2 clutch will need a short adaptation period to find the engagement point. This is standard for all twin disc systems — not a defect. Not recommended for drivers who require a forgiving street engagement feel.
- Heat management: The twin disc design distributes heat across two discs and the intermediate floater plate, improving thermal performance in sustained high-load use compared to a single disc at equivalent capacity.
Steel Flywheel — Why Steel for This Application
The kit includes a Clutch Masters steel flywheel (not aluminium). Steel is the correct choice for the 850 Series race application:
- Higher rotational inertia: Steel flywheels carry more rotational mass than aluminium, producing a smoother idle, more predictable clutch engagement at launch, and better consistency in drag and road race applications where stable driveline behaviour is prioritised over outright rev response.
- Superior heat resistance: Steel handles the repeated high-heat cycles of race use — track day sessions, drag strip launches, and sustained performance driving — without the heat fatigue that aluminium can experience under sustained abuse.
- OEM flywheel not used: The Camaro SS OEM flywheel is incompatible with the Clutch Masters twin disc system’s pressure plate geometry and disc stack. The included steel flywheel is a precision machined unit matched to the 850 Series twin disc assembly. Do not attempt to install this clutch kit on the factory flywheel.
Hydraulic Release Bearing (HRB)
The 04175-TD8R-SH includes a matched hydraulic release bearing (HRB) specific to the Clutch Masters 850 Series pressure plate release specification:
- The TR6060 uses a hydraulic clutch actuation system with a concentric slave cylinder inside the bellhousing. The Clutch Masters HRB replaces the OEM concentric slave cylinder with a unit calibrated for the 850 Series pressure plate’s release load and travel requirements.
- Using the OEM HRB/slave cylinder with the 850 Series pressure plate is not correct — the included HRB is matched to the clutch assembly’s release specifications.
- The HRB being included in the kit ensures a complete, correctly matched drivetrain system without sourcing additional components separately.
2010–2012 Camaro SS — Application Notes
- Fits 2010, 2011, and 2012 Camaro SS with LS3 6.2L V8 (L99 automatic-equipped cars are not applicable) and TR6060 6-speed manual transmission.
- Does not fit 2013–2015 Camaro SS — the 2013+ model year received transmission and bellhousing updates that affect clutch fitment.
- Does not fit Camaro SS with automatic transmission (6L80E).
- Camaro ZL1 (LSA) and Z/28 (LS7) are different applications — not covered by this kit.
OEM flywheel not retained — Clutch Masters steel flywheel required and included. 2010–2012 Camaro SS LS3 TR6060 only. ~850 lb-ft torque capacity. Twin disc race clutch system. For forced induction and high-power race builds. Professional installation required. 30 lbs complete kit.
