Multi-Layer Steel Construction

Embossed stainless-steel outer layers are coated on both sides with Viton sealing material, while the center shim layer is uncoated stainless steel. Stainless steel provides strength, rebound capability and corrosion resistance. The layered design accommodates the relative movement of compatible aluminum and cast-iron head/block combinations.

The outer-layer coating is described as heat resistant to 250°C / 482°F. This is a coating characteristic, not a permissible engine operating-temperature rating.

Installation Notes

Have the head and block checked for flatness and the required surface finish before assembly. Select compressed thickness as part of the complete engine build, accounting for machining and required clearances rather than assuming that a thicker gasket is automatically better.

Do not add spray sealant or other coatings. Follow the head-bolt or stud manufacturer's torque instructions and the applicable engine assembly sequence. This is a head gasket, not a complete engine gasket or fastener kit.
