COMP Cams Xtreme Energy Hydraulic Flat Tappet Cam K-Kit – Chrysler 273-360 c.i. V8 | 218/224 | Street/Strip | K20-222-3
The COMP Cams Xtreme Energy Cam K-Kit for Chrysler 273-360 c.i. delivers a proven street/strip performance profile for the Chrysler LA small block V8 family — covering 273, 318, 340, and 360 c.i. applications from 1964 through 2002. The Xtreme Energy series is engineered for excellent throttle response, good fuel mileage, and broad street performance across a wide RPM range (1,300–5,600 RPM), making it an ideal upgrade for street-driven Mopar builds running a stock converter and 3.23–4.10 rear gear ratios. The K-Kit includes the camshaft, matching lifters, and the complete valvetrain components needed for a full cam installation — everything in one box.

Key Features
- Xtreme Energy Grind – Excellent Throttle Response & Mileage: The Xtreme Energy series delivers strong throttle response and meaningful power gains over the factory cam while maintaining good fuel mileage and broad street drivability. The 218/224 @ .050" profile is well-suited to street-driven Mopar LA builds targeting performance without sacrificing everyday usability
- Chrysler LA Small Block – 273 to 360 c.i.: The Chrysler LA engine family (1964–2002) covers the 273, 318, 340, and 360 c.i. displacements used across decades of Dodge, Plymouth, and Chrysler muscle cars, trucks, and performance vehicles. All LA engines share the same cam journal dimensions and firing order — this is a direct-fit cam upgrade across the entire family
- Hydraulic Flat Tappet – Street-Friendly, No Lash Adjustment: Hydraulic flat tappet design requires no periodic valve lash adjustment — self-adjusting hydraulic lifters maintain correct valve lash automatically. Compatible with standard Chrysler LA flat tappet lifter bores without machine work
- Matched Cam & Lifter Set: Cam and lifters are supplied as a matched set — critical for flat tappet applications where the cam lobe and lifter face must wear together correctly during break-in. Never mix a new flat tappet cam with used lifters or vice versa
- Stock Converter Compatible: The 218/224 profile works with a stock torque converter and 3.23–4.10 rear gear — no stall speed upgrade required for street-driven builds
- Complete K-Kit – Everything for the Install: The K-Kit eliminates the need to source individual valvetrain components separately — springs, retainers, locks, seals, timing chain, and assembly lube are all included and matched to the cam specification
- COMP Cams Quality: COMP Cams is one of the most respected camshaft manufacturers in the performance aftermarket, with decades of experience in cam design and valvetrain engineering for the Chrysler LA engine family and domestic V8 applications
Fitment
- Chrysler / Dodge / Plymouth 273 c.i. V8 — LA Engine (1964–1969)
- Chrysler / Dodge / Plymouth 318 c.i. V8 — LA Engine (1967–2002)
- Chrysler / Dodge / Plymouth 340 c.i. V8 — LA Engine (1968–1973)
- Chrysler / Dodge / Plymouth 360 c.i. V8 — LA Engine (1971–2002)
⚠️ Installation Notes: Hydraulic flat tappet camshafts require a proper break-in procedure — use a high-zinc (ZDDP) break-in oil and run the engine at 2,000–2,500 RPM for 20–30 minutes immediately after first start to seat the cam lobes and lifters. Do not let the engine idle during break-in. Failure to follow proper break-in procedure is the leading cause of flat tappet cam failure. Never reuse old lifters with a new flat tappet cam — always install new matched lifters. Verify valve spring pressures are within COMP Cams’ recommended range for this cam’s lift. Degree the cam during installation to verify correct installed centerline. Professional engine builder installation strongly recommended.
