Hub-Centric Design

GrimmSpeed’s wheel spacers use a hub-centric bore that locates the spacer on the factory hub register rather than relying on the wheel studs alone to centre the assembly. Hub-centric fitment is critical for vibration-free operation at speed — lug-centric spacers that centre only on the studs introduce runout that causes steering wheel vibration, particularly at highway speeds. The hub-centric bore must match the factory hub diameter (56.1mm for STI and WRX) — GrimmSpeed’s spacers are application-specific and pre-matched to this bore.

20mm — Track Width and Fitment Impact

At 20mm per side, these spacers move each wheel face outward by 20mm, increasing total track width by 40mm. On the STI and WRX, 20mm is a meaningful increment — enough to bring the wheel face flush with or slightly proud of the factory fender lip on stock or mildly lowered cars on most wheel and tyre combinations. The wider track reduces the moment arm on the suspension during cornering, improving lateral stability and reducing effective body roll. Confirm wheel and tyre combination clearance against the fender and suspension components before finalising spacer thickness — a 20mm spacer on a wide aftermarket wheel may push the tyre into the fender at full steering lock.

Extended Studs — Safety Critical

Adding a 20mm spacer between the hub and wheel reduces the available thread engagement of the factory wheel studs into the wheel. The factory stud length is designed for the wheel to sit directly on the hub — with a 20mm spacer in place, the factory studs will not provide adequate thread engagement through the spacer and into the wheel nut. Extended wheel studs must be fitted — either the spacer uses a through-stud design with longer studs included, or longer aftermarket studs must be pressed into the hub before installation. Confirm stud arrangement and thread engagement before driving on these spacers.

5×114.3 Bolt Pattern

These spacers maintain the 5×114.3 bolt pattern — they are spacers, not adapters, so the wheel bolt pattern does not change. The Subaru STI adopted the 5×114.3 pattern from the 2005 GD generation. The WRX moved from 5×100 to 5×114.3 with the 2015 VA generation. Both the VA and VB WRX (2015–2026) use 5×114.3, confirming compatibility across the full stated fitment range.
