Oil-wetted gauze filters (such as K&N’s oiled line) require careful re-oiling after washing; over-oiling or uneven application can transfer filter oil to the MAF sensor element, coating the sensing wire and causing inaccurate airflow readings. On an FA24-equipped BRZ or GR86 — where precise MAF readings are important for fuelling accuracy across the naturally-aspirated rev range — eliminating this risk is a meaningful advantage.
