What Is a Test Pipe

A test pipe (decat pipe) is a straight section of pipe that replaces the factory catalytic converter. The catalytic converter’s honeycomb substrate creates exhaust backpressure — particularly at high RPM and elevated boost levels on the Theta II turbo. Removing this restriction allows exhaust gases to exit the turbine housing more freely, reducing backpressure and improving turbo spool and high-RPM flow. The result is improved power output and a more aggressive exhaust note. This is an off-road / track-only modification — it is not legal for street use.

CEL Note

Removing the catalytic converter will trigger a check engine light (CEL) from the downstream O2 sensor detecting the absence of the catalyst. Address this with an O2 sensor spacer/simulator (sold separately) or an ECU tune that disables rear O2 sensor monitoring. This is expected and normal after cat removal.
