Motul 8100 ECO-NERGY 5W30 Engine Oil – 5L | ACEA A5/B5 | Ford WSS-M2C913 | Renault RN0700 | 102898

ACEA A5/B5 fuel economy oil — confirm your engine specifies A5/B5 before ordering. The ECO-NERGY 5W30 uses a low-HTHS (High Temperature High Shear) formulation specifically required by certain OEM approvals. It must not be used in engines specifying high-HTHS oil (ACEA A3/B4) — the reduced film thickness at operating temperature is not appropriate for high-load or motorsport applications. If your engine specifies A3/B4, use Motul 8100 X-cess instead. Primary OEM approvals: Ford WSS-M2C913-D/DD, Renault RN0700, Volvo VCC RBS0-2AE, Jaguar Land Rover STJLR 03.5006.

Motul 8100 ECO-NERGY 5W30 — 100% synthetic fuel economy engine oil formulated for modern petrol and diesel engines requiring ACEA A5/B5 low-HTHS viscosity. Full synthetic base stocks with Motul’s 8100-series additive package. OEM-approved for Ford, Renault, Volvo, and Jaguar Land Rover applications specifying WSS-M2C913, RN0700, or STJLR 03.5006. 5 litres. Ships fast across Canada and the US.

ACEA A5/B5 — What Low-HTHS Means and When It’s Specified

ACEA A5/B5 is a specific engine oil category that must be matched to the correct engine application:

  • HTHS viscosity (High Temperature High Shear): HTHS viscosity measures an oil’s resistance to flow under the extreme temperature and shear conditions found between the crankshaft journal and bearing at operating temperature. It is the most direct measure of oil film thickness under the conditions that matter most for bearing protection. ACEA A3/B4 oils have HTHS ≥3.5 mPa·s; ACEA A5/B5 oils have HTHS in the 2.9–3.5 mPa·s range — deliberately lower to reduce internal friction.
  • Why lower HTHS reduces fuel consumption: Lower HTHS oil creates less viscous drag on rotating components — crankshaft journals, camshafts, and timing chain interfaces. This measurably reduces the power required to pump oil through the engine, which translates directly to fuel consumption reduction. Modern fuel economy regulations in Europe (WLTP, NEDC) have driven OEMs to specify A5/B5 low-HTHS oils because the fuel economy improvement is real and auditable.
  • When A5/B5 is required vs when it is not: A5/B5 is the correct specification for engines designed around it — Ford EcoBoost, TDCi diesel, Duratec petrol; Renault Energy and dCi engines; Volvo Drive-E engines; Jaguar Land Rover Ingenium engines. These engines are designed with bearing clearances and oil pump systems calibrated for A5/B5 viscosity. Running a high-HTHS A3/B4 oil in these engines provides no additional protection and may slightly increase fuel consumption. Conversely, running a low-HTHS A5/B5 oil in an engine designed for A3/B4 (e.g., older BMW M or Mercedes AMG engines) can result in insufficient bearing film thickness under high-load operation.

OEM Approvals and Application Coverage

Motul 102898 8100 ECO-NERGY 5W30 carries or meets the following OEM approvals:

  • Ford WSS-M2C913-D / WSS-M2C913-DD: Ford Motor Company’s primary fuel economy engine oil specification. Covers a very wide range of Ford, Lincoln, and Mazda engines — EcoBoost 1.0L, 1.5L, 1.6L, 2.0L, 2.3L, 2.7L, 3.5L; 2.5L Duratec; TDCi diesel variants. If your Ford’s owner’s manual specifies WSS-M2C913-A, B, C, D, or DD, the ECO-NERGY 5W30 is an approved choice. WSS-M2C913 is one of the most widely applicable OEM specifications in North America — covering millions of Ford vehicles from 2008 to the present generation.
  • Renault RN0700: Renault’s 5W30 fuel economy oil specification for petrol and diesel engines. Covers Renault Energy, TCe, dCi, and related engines used in Renault and Dacia vehicles. Also referenced by some Nissan/Infiniti vehicles using Renault-derived engines where RN0700 is specified.
  • Volvo VCC RBS0-2AE: Volvo Car Corporation’s fuel economy engine oil approval. Covers Volvo Drive-E engines (T3, T4, T5, T6, D3, D4, D5 variants) in XC40, XC60, XC90, S60, S90, V60, V90 and related models specifying 5W30 fuel economy oil.
  • Jaguar Land Rover STJLR 03.5006: JLR’s Ingenium engine oil specification. Covers petrol and diesel Ingenium engines in Range Rover, Discovery, Defender, Jaguar F-Pace, E-Pace, XE, and XF models specifying this standard.
  • API SL/CF: American Petroleum Institute petrol (SL) and diesel (CF) service classifications.

Motul 8100 Full Synthetic Base Oil

  • 100% synthetic: The 8100 series uses fully synthetic (not semi-synthetic or mineral) base stocks. Full synthetic base oils provide superior thermal stability, oxidation resistance, and shear resistance compared to mineral or semi-synthetic equivalents — maintaining viscosity grade across a wider temperature range and over a longer service interval.
  • 8100 ECO-NERGY vs 8100 X-cess: Both are full synthetic Motul 8100-series oils. The ECO-NERGY (A5/B5) is the fuel economy variant with low HTHS — for Ford, Renault, Volvo, JLR applications. The X-cess (A3/B4) is the high-HTHS variant for engines specifying maximum protection viscosity — BMW LL-01, MB 229.3/229.5, VW 502/505. Confirm which specification your engine requires before selecting between them.
  • Extended drain interval: Full synthetic formulation supports extended oil change intervals as specified by your vehicle’s OBC (on-board computer) oil life monitor or OEM service schedule. Do not exceed the OEM-specified drain interval.

5W30 Viscosity — Cold Start and Operating Performance

  • 5W cold-start rating: Provides rapid oil flow at temperatures down to approximately −30°C / −22°F — appropriate for Canadian winter conditions including cold-weather starts across all regions.
  • SAE 30 / A5/B5 operating viscosity: At operating temperature, the ECO-NERGY maintains a lower-end SAE 30 kinematic viscosity profile within the A5/B5 HTHS window — providing the fuel economy benefit while meeting the minimum film thickness requirements of OEM-approved applications.

100% synthetic. ACEA A5/B5 low-HTHS fuel economy oil. Ford WSS-M2C913-D/DD, Renault RN0700, Volvo VCC RBS0-2AE, Jaguar Land Rover STJLR 03.5006. API SL/CF. 5W30. 5L. Not for A3/B4-specified engines or motorsport use. Confirm OEM specification before ordering.
