OMP Steering Wheel Hub | Toyota AE86 Corolla | 6-Bolt 70mm PCD | OD0-1960-TO957
OMP Steering Wheel Hub – Toyota AE86 Corolla (1983–1987) | 6-Bolt 70mm PCD | OD0-1960-TO957
Fits Toyota AE86 Corolla (1983–1987) only. This hub is specific to the AE86 steering column spline — it does not fit other Corolla generations (AE92, AE101, ZZE122, E210, etc.), Celica, MR2, or other Toyota models without confirming column spline compatibility. The AE86 has no airbag/SRS system — no deactivation required. Aftermarket steering wheel, quick-release, and horn button are not included. Compatible with any 6-bolt 70mm PCD aftermarket steering wheel (OMP, Momo, Sparco, Nardi, Vertex, NRG, etc.).
OMP OD0/1960/TO957 steering wheel hub adapter for the Toyota AE86 Corolla (1983–1987). Connects any 6-bolt 70mm PCD aftermarket steering wheel to the AE86’s factory steering column. Aluminium hub body with horn contact mechanism and mounting hardware included. Made in Italy by OMP. Ships fast across Canada and the US.
What a Steering Wheel Hub Does
The steering wheel hub adapter — also called a boss kit or steering boss — is the interface component between the factory steering column and an aftermarket steering wheel:
- Factory side: The hub bore is machined to match the AE86’s factory column spline exactly — the same spline pattern as the OEM steering wheel. The hub slides onto the column spline and is secured with the centre bolt, locking it rotationally to the column.
- Aftermarket wheel side: The hub’s face presents a 6-bolt 70mm PCD (pitch circle diameter) bolt pattern — the universal standard for aftermarket steering wheels from OMP, Momo, Sparco, Nardi, Vertex, NRG, and virtually all other aftermarket wheel manufacturers. Any steering wheel with a 6×70mm bolt pattern bolts directly to this hub.
- Horn contact: The hub includes OMP’s horn slip ring mechanism, maintaining the horn circuit through the rotating column-to-wheel interface. Required for horn function with an aftermarket wheel without a separate horn button wired directly.
- No SRS/airbag concerns on AE86: The 1983–1987 AE86 predates supplemental restraint systems entirely. There is no airbag to deactivate, no SRS module to manage, and no clock spring to disconnect. The hub installation is a straightforward column replacement without the complexity of modern SRS-equipped vehicles.
AE86 Application — Why This Hub Matters
The Toyota AE86 Corolla (Hachi-Roku) is the foundation of grassroots motorsport culture globally — the car that defined Japanese touge racing, launched drifting as a discipline, and remains one of the most actively raced lightweight rear-wheel drive platforms in club motorsport, autocross, and time attack:
- Platform significance: The AE86’s 4A-GE engine, rear-wheel drive layout, and lightweight chassis (approximately 900 kg) make it the benchmark entry-level performance platform for drivers who want a pure, unassisted driving experience. The aftermarket for AE86 is extensive and mature — suspension, brakes, engine, and interior components are widely available from Japanese and global suppliers.
- Steering wheel replacement on the AE86: The OEM AE86 steering wheel is a large-diameter, high-rim unit appropriate for road use but not for circuit or motorsport driving where a smaller diameter (320–350mm) wheel provides faster steering input and less arm movement per lock. Replacing the factory wheel with a 330mm or 350mm aftermarket unit improves steering precision and driver ergonomics for spirited driving. The OMP hub is the required interface component for this upgrade.
- Quick-release compatibility: Many AE86 builds use a quick-release hub between the boss and the steering wheel — allowing rapid steering wheel removal for driver entry/exit in a caged car, or as a basic anti-theft measure. OMP quick-release adapters and third-party quick-release units mount to the 6×70mm face of this hub. Quick-release sold separately.
OMP Hub Construction
- Aluminium hub body: Machined aluminium construction — lightweight and corrosion resistant. OMP’s hubs are produced to the dimensional tolerances required for motorsport use, with column bore concentricity that ensures no steering play introduced by the hub itself.
- Horn contact slip ring: Maintains the horn circuit through the rotating hub-to-column interface. Compatible with standard OEM horn systems.
- Made in Italy: OMP manufactures in Ronco all’Adige, Italy. The OD0/1960 series hubs are produced to the same quality standard as OMP’s competition steering equipment.
- Hardware included: Centre column bolt, any required spacers, and mounting hardware for the AE86 application.
Compatible Aftermarket Steering Wheels
Any aftermarket steering wheel with a 6-bolt 70mm PCD bolt pattern fits this hub directly:
- OMP steering wheels (all 6×70mm models)
- Momo steering wheels (all 6×70mm models)
- Sparco steering wheels (all 6×70mm models)
- Nardi / Personal steering wheels (6×70mm models)
- Vertex, NRG, Works Bell, and other aftermarket brands using the 6×70mm standard
Confirm your chosen steering wheel uses 6-bolt 70mm PCD before ordering. Some budget aftermarket wheels use non-standard bolt patterns — these will not fit without an adapter plate.
