Polyurethane vs OEM Rubber

Factory sway bar bushings are rubber — soft, quiet, and compliant, but prone to degradation over time. Rubber bushings crack, harden, and lose their shape, allowing the sway bar to move within its clamps and reducing the bar’s effectiveness at controlling body roll. Prothane’s polyurethane bushings are significantly firmer and more durable than rubber. Poly maintains its shape and mechanical properties over a much longer service life, keeps the sway bar positively located in the clamp, and improves the bar’s responsiveness to chassis roll inputs. The trade-off is a small increase in NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) transmission compared to rubber — expected and normal with polyurethane bushings.

34mm — Sway Bar Diameter

This bushing set is sized for a 34mm diameter front sway bar. Ram trucks of this generation were available with different sway bar diameters — verify your bar diameter with a tape measure or caliper before ordering. Installing an incorrectly sized bushing will result in either a loose fit (too large) or inability to install (too small).

Grease & Installation

Prothane polyurethane bushings require lubrication with polyurethane-compatible grease — typically included with the bushing set. Do not use petroleum-based greases on polyurethane bushings — petroleum products degrade polyurethane and will cause the bushings to swell, crack, and fail prematurely. Use only the supplied Prothane grease or a compatible poly-safe lubricant.
