FIA 8855-1999 Certification

The 96775579RQP is certified to FIA 8855-1999, the FIA standard for racing seats, with a physical FIA hologram affixed to the seat shell — verify the hologram is present and intact upon receipt. FIA 8855-1999 is accepted by many circuit racing organisations and sanctioning bodies for competition use. Note that some series have adopted the newer FIA 8862-2009 standard as a minimum and no longer accept FIA 8855-1999 — confirm which seat specification your series and class require before purchasing. FIA-certified seats carry a homologation service life from the manufacture date stamped on the label; after this date the seat cannot be used in FIA-sanctioned competition. Check the label date and your series rules on maximum seat age before ordering.

Seat Sizing — Large (16")

RaceQuip racing seats are sized by shell width at the widest point of the hip area. The Large shell is 16 inches wide. To select the correct size, measure your seated hip width (the widest point across your hips when seated) and add approximately 1–2 inches. A seat that is too narrow causes pressure points and discomfort during extended sessions; a seat that is too wide reduces lateral support and harness effectiveness. This listing is for the Large (16") only — Medium (15") and X-Large (17") are available on separate listings.

FRP Composite Shell

The shell is a one-piece hand-laid Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP/fibreglass composite) structure. One-piece construction eliminates joints and bonding points that are potential failure locations under crash loads. FRP provides a strong, durable shell at a lower cost than carbon fibre — appropriate for club racing, time attack, and HPDE applications where carbon fibre weight savings are not a priority. The exposed shell surfaces are finished in shiny black gelcoat for appearance and easier cleaning.

Harness Compatibility — 5 Belt Guides

Five integrated belt guide slots accommodate 4-point, 5-point, and 6-point harness sets. The seat is compatible with all FHR/HANS head and neck restraint devices. Harness sets are sold separately — if you are also purchasing a RaceQuip harness, confirm that the harness belt guide slots are compatible with your selected harness webbing width (2-inch or 3-inch).

Cushioning and Upholstery

Seat bottom and back cushions use energy-absorbing memory foam for both comfort and impact energy management during extended racing sessions. The upholstery is black mesh fabric for breathability in high-airflow areas, with a more durable smooth covering in high-wear contact zones.

Mounting — Brackets Sold Separately

The seat includes four built-in 8mm side mount threaded inserts (two per side) for bracket attachment. Mounting brackets are not included and must be purchased separately — RaceQuip offers optional brackets that allow mounting from 0° upright to 30° layback position. Confirm bracket compatibility with your vehicle’s floor or cage mounting points before ordering.
