5-Point vs 6-Point — Choosing the Right Configuration

A 5-point harness uses two lap belts, two shoulder belts, and a single centre crotch strap (anti-submarine strap). A 6-point harness uses the same lap and shoulder configuration but replaces the single crotch strap with a dual-leg moustache bar crotch design, providing wider anti-submarine coverage across both thighs. Key considerations:

• 5-point: Standard for many club racing classes, autocross, track days, and entry-level competition. Accepted by most SCCA and NASA classes that allow CAMLOCK harnesses. Simpler crotch strap geometry.
• 6-point: Required by some sanctioning bodies for higher-speed events and mandatory for some FIA-adjacent events. Provides broader anti-submarine protection. Often required when HANS/HNR devices are mandated.

SFI 16.1 Certification — 2-Year Service Life

The 741011RQP is certified to SFI 16.1 — the standard required by most North American sanctioning bodies including SCCA, NASA, and regional club racing organisations. SFI certified harnesses carry a 2-year service life from manufacture date. The manufacture date is printed on the harness label — verify before purchase. A harness manufactured more than 2 years ago is out of certification and will not pass technical inspection regardless of visual condition. Replace as a complete set when expired.

CAMLOCK Buckle — Aluminium Alloy

The lightweight aluminium alloy cam buckle provides precise spring pressure and positive engagement. To unlock, rotate the lever 45 degrees left or right — releasing all belt points simultaneously for rapid egress. The buckle remains attached to the right-side lap belt when unlatched. Hardware throughout is drop-forged steel with 3-bar slides.

Pull-Down Lap Configuration

This harness uses a pull-down lap belt design — to tighten, pull the lap belt ends away from the cam buckle (downward and outward). Lap belt adjusts from 30 to 70 inches. Shoulder belts adjust from 25 to 72 inches. Double adjustable ends on all belts allow mounting as either wrap-around or bolt-in configurations.

Mounting Requirements

Must be mounted to a roll cage or dedicated harness bar. Not suitable for installation using factory OEM seat belt mounting points. If your vehicle does not have a roll cage or harness bar, do not install this harness. Correct mounting geometry is critical for harness performance in a crash — follow RaceQuip’s installation instructions.
