Why a Fuel Hanger Upgrade on the FL5

The FL5 Civic Type-R’s K20C1 produces 315 hp from the factory — a significant output already, and one that its OEM fuel system is matched to. Once the FL5 enters Stage 2+ territory (upgraded turbocharger, ported head, high-lift cams, E85), the OEM in-tank fuel pump and sender assembly becomes the limiting factor in fuel delivery:

• OEM pump capacity: The FL5’s factory fuel pump is sized for stock power output on pump gasoline. Upgraded turbocharger builds pushing 400+ whp on E85 will exceed the OEM pump’s flow capacity at the fuel pressures required by the engine’s ECU calibration.
• E85 fuel demand: E85 requires approximately 30–35% more fuel volume than gasoline to produce the same power output, due to its lower stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. A pump that is marginal on gasoline at a given power level will be significantly undersized on E85 at the same power.
• Single point of failure: The OEM system runs one pump. High-power builds on the track or drag strip benefit from redundant pump capacity — a multi-pump hanger configuration provides this.

Radium Engineering Hanger Architecture

The 20-1090 replaces the entire OEM fuel sender/pump assembly with a Radium-engineered aluminium hanger designed specifically for the FL5’s tank geometry and flange dimensions:

• Drop-in installation: The hanger uses the OEM tank flange opening and locking ring — no tank removal, no cutting, no welding. Remove the OEM assembly through the access panel, install the Radium hanger, and reconnect fuel and electrical connections. The FL5’s in-tank access is located under the rear cargo floor.
• CNC machined aluminium: The hanger plate and pump mounting components are machined aluminium — resistant to gasoline, E85, and ethanol blends. All O-rings and seals are E85-rated throughout.
• Up to three pump positions: The 20-1090 accepts up to three AEM 50-1220 or DW440-equivalent pumps in a clustered arrangement within the OEM flange footprint. Single, dual, and triple pump configurations are all supported — the number of pumps installed scales with power and fuel demand.
• Fuel level sending unit: The Radium hanger integrates a fuel level sender to retain OEM fuel gauge function.

Pump Compatibility — AEM 50-1220 and DW440

The 20-1090 is designed around two of the most widely used high-flow in-tank pumps in the import performance market:

• AEM 50-1220 (340 LPH): AEM’s 340 litre-per-hour high-flow in-tank pump. A single AEM 50-1220 supports approximately 550–600 whp on E85 or higher on gasoline. Two units support 900+ whp on E85. E85 compatible. Uses the Bosch-style electrical connector common to this pump class.
• DeatschWerks DW440 (440 LPH): DeatschWerks’ 440 LPH pump — one of the highest-flow single pumps in common import performance use. A single DW440 supports 700+ whp on gasoline or approximately 550+ whp on E85. Dual DW440 configuration covers virtually any street or track FL5 build. E85 compatible.
• Equivalent pumps: Other pumps with the same external body dimensions and Bosch-style electrical connector are compatible. Confirm external diameter, body length, and connector type against the AEM 50-1220 or DW440 spec before purchasing an alternative brand.

E85 Compatibility

The 20-1090 hanger assembly — aluminium construction, E85-rated O-rings and seals throughout — is fully compatible with E85 and high-ethanol fuel blends. Both the AEM 50-1220 and DW440 compatible pumps are also E85 rated. The complete system (hanger + compatible pumps + E85-rated fuel lines) provides a purpose-built E85 fuel delivery foundation for high-power FL5 builds. Note that transitioning to E85 also requires injector upgrades, ECU calibration for E85 stoichiometry, and confirmation that all fuel system components (lines, fittings, rail) are E85 compatible.

FL5 vs FK8 — Generation Fitment

The 20-1090 is engineered for the 2022+ FL5 Civic Type-R only. The previous-generation FK8 (2017–2021) uses a different fuel tank geometry and flange specification — a separate Radium hanger part number is required for FK8 applications. Confirm your CTR is the FL5 (2022+) before ordering.
