Turbosmart TS-1 Series

The Turbosmart TS-1 is Turbosmart’s own-brand ball-bearing turbocharger line, designed for high-performance and motorsport applications. TS-1 turbos use a ball-bearing centre cartridge (CHRA) rather than a journal bearing — ball bearings provide faster spool response, improved shaft stability at high RPM, and longer service life under sustained high-load operation. The billet compressor wheel is CNC-machined from a solid aluminium billet, providing tighter dimensional tolerances, better aerodynamic consistency, and higher burst strength than a cast equivalent.

TS-1-7675C — Turbo Specification

The 7675 designation references the compressor and turbine wheel sizing — a large-frame turbocharger configuration suited for high-power single or twin applications. In a mirror twin configuration at 0.96 A/R, this package is oriented toward peak power at high RPM rather than low-RPM response. Spool characteristics will depend on engine displacement, exhaust manifold design, and boost target — buyers should map this turbo’s compressor map against their engine’s airflow requirements and power target before committing to this sizing.

Mirror Twin Configuration

The mirror twin package provides two TS-1-7675C turbos — one left-hand and one right-hand unit. Mirror twins share identical internal components but have opposite compressor housing outlet orientations, allowing both turbos to be plumbed symmetrically on a twin-turbo manifold without requiring one turbo to use awkward piping angles. This is the correct configuration for parallel or V-engine twin-turbo setups where symmetric layout and equal flow paths are required for balanced power delivery from both banks.

V-Band Connections

Both the compressor inlet and turbine outlet use V-band (Vee-band) clamp connections. V-band is the preferred connection standard for high-performance turbo applications — the clamp provides a strong, leak-resistant seal, is faster to assemble and disassemble than flanged connections, and handles thermal expansion cycles well. V-band connections on both sides simplify intercooler piping and exhaust manifold collector connections.

0.96 A/R Turbine Housing

A/R (Area/Radius) is the key parameter describing turbine housing flow capacity. 0.96 A/R is a large turbine housing for this turbo frame — it offers lower restriction at peak exhaust flow, supporting higher peak power output at elevated RPM. The trade-off is a higher exhaust backpressure threshold required to spool the turbine — spool will occur at higher RPM and higher exhaust flow compared to a smaller A/R housing. This A/R is appropriate for high-RPM, high-power builds where top-end output is prioritised over low-RPM response.

Oil Cooled

The TS-1-7675C uses an oil-cooled centre section — engine oil circulates through the CHRA for lubrication and heat removal. Water cooling ports are not present. For sustained high-load or high-temperature applications, ensure adequate oil supply pressure and flow to the turbos, and consider a turbo timer or idle-down period after hard use to prevent oil coking in the centre section after shutdown.
