Fitment Information:

Universal Application: This wideband AFR gauge kit works with any gasoline-powered vehicle. The sensor installs in the exhaust system (welding required for bung installation), and the gauge mounts in any standard 52mm gauge pod or custom location.

Installation Notes:

  • Professional installation recommended
  • Weld-on bung must be installed in exhaust pipe (12-18 inches from turbo or 36 inches from engine)
  • Sensor should be mounted at 10° angle from horizontal (prevents condensation damage)
  • Wire power to switched 12V source (ignition-switched recommended)
  • Ground to clean chassis ground point
  • Optional: Connect 0-5V output to standalone ECU or datalogger
  • Sensor requires 30-60 seconds warm-up time before accurate readings

Understanding AFR (Air/Fuel Ratio):

Air/Fuel Ratio represents the mass of air to fuel in the combustion chamber. For gasoline engines:

  • Stoichiometric (14.7:1): Chemically perfect combustion - ideal for emissions and fuel economy
  • Rich (12.5-13.5:1): More fuel than stoich - used for maximum power and engine cooling under load
  • Lean (15.0-16.0:1): Less fuel than stoich - used for fuel economy during cruise
  • Dangerously Lean (17.0+:1): Risk of detonation and engine damage

Why Wideband vs. Narrowband?

Factory narrowband O2 sensors only accurately read at stoichiometric (14.7:1) and are designed for emissions control, not tuning. Wideband sensors like the Bosch 4.9 LSU accurately measure across the entire AFR range from rich to lean, providing the precise data needed for performance tuning, especially under boost or high load conditions.

Why AEM X-Series?

AEM's X-Series gauges combine cutting-edge technology with user-friendly design. The Bosch 4.9 LSU sensor is the latest generation wideband technology, offering faster response times and improved accuracy compared to older 4.2 sensors. The digital display is easy to read in any lighting condition, and the 0-5V output makes integration with standalone ECUs and datalogging systems simple.

Perfect For: Turbocharged and supercharged builds, naturally aspirated performance engines, dyno tuning sessions, track day data logging, or anyone serious about proper engine tuning and monitoring.

Pro Tip: Install the sensor in the exhaust collector (after all cylinders merge) for an average reading, or install individual sensors per bank on V-configuration engines for cylinder-specific tuning.

Essential Tool: A wideband AFR gauge is considered essential equipment for any modified engine, especially forced induction applications where running too lean can cause catastrophic engine damage.

Tune with confidence using AEM's X-Series Wideband AFR Gauge - the industry standard for accurate air/fuel ratio monitoring.
