Apollo-6 6-Piston Monoblock Calipers

EBC’s Apollo-6 calipers are fixed 6-piston monoblock units — machined from a single billet of aluminium with three pistons on each side of the rotor. Six pistons distribute clamping force more evenly across the full pad face than a 4-piston design, further reducing pad taper wear and improving heat distribution across the pad contact area under sustained braking loads. Monoblock construction eliminates the flex point at the caliper split line found in two-piece bolted calipers, maintaining consistent pad-to-rotor contact geometry under the highest braking forces. The result is more linear, progressive pedal feel and consistent braking response from cold to operating temperature and through repeated hard stops.

Anodized Finish

The Apollo-6 calipers in this kit feature an anodized aluminium finish — an electrochemical surface treatment that penetrates the aluminium substrate rather than sitting on top like paint. Anodizing is harder and more abrasion-resistant than paint, does not chip or flake under thermal cycling, and maintains its appearance through the high-temperature environment of a performance braking application. Anodized finish is the correct choice for buyers prioritising long-term caliper appearance retention under track and spirited street use.

380mm Slotted Rotors

The 380mm rotor diameter is a significant step up from the G42 220i’s factory front rotors. The larger diameter increases the mechanical braking advantage (more torque per unit of clamping force), adds rotor mass for greater heat absorption capacity during extended braking events, and increases swept area for improved heat dissipation. EBC’s rotors feature machined slots that evacuate hot gases, brake dust, and debris from the pad-to-rotor interface, maintaining consistent bite and preventing pad glazing under sustained hard braking.

Wheel Clearance

The Apollo-6 caliper and 380mm rotor combination requires sufficient wheel inner barrel clearance. Before ordering, verify that your wheels provide adequate clearance for the caliper body — the G42 220i’s factory wheel options range from 17” to 18” depending on trim, and not all will clear a 380mm BBK. Minimum 18” diameter is a general baseline, but clearance is specific to the wheel’s spoke design and inner barrel depth. EBC provides caliper dimension drawings on request — compare against your wheel’s inner barrel measurement before committing to the kit.
