Brian Crower LightWeight Billet Crankshaft – Toyota 2JZ-GTE | 94mm Stroke | Honda Rod Journals | 4340 | BC5309LW-86
This is a 94mm stroker crankshaft — it increases the 2JZ-GTE’s stroke from 86mm (stock) to 94mm. A stroker build requires matched connecting rods, pistons (correct compression height for the increased stroke), and bearings sized for the Honda 45mm rod journals. This is not a stock-stroke replacement crank. A complete rotating assembly specification from an experienced 2JZ engine builder is required before ordering.
Rod journals are ground to 45mm (Honda B/H-series diameter) — OEM Toyota 2JZ rod bearings (52mm) will not fit. Honda-journal-sized bearings (King, ACL, Clevite in 45mm) are required.
Brian Crower BC5309LW-86 lightweight 4340 billet crankshaft for the Toyota 2JZ-GTE. 94mm stroke, 45mm Honda rod journals, precision LightWeight machining. For Supra MK4 and 2JZ-powered high-power stroker builds. 70 lbs. Ships fast across Canada and the US.
4340 Billet Construction
The BC5309LW-86 is machined from a single piece of 4340 chromoly steel billet bar stock. Unlike OEM cast or forged crankshafts produced from dies, a billet crankshaft starts with a solid bar and is machined entirely from that single piece, resulting in a consistent, isotropic grain structure throughout the part with no seams, voids, or directional grain limitations. 4340 chromoly steel provides exceptional tensile strength, toughness, and fatigue resistance under the high rotational loads, torsional stress, and cylinder pressure forces imposed by a high-power turbocharged inline-6. For builds targeting 800–1,000+ hp, a billet crankshaft is the correct foundation for a reliable rotating assembly.
LightWeight Machining
Brian Crower’s LightWeight treatment involves precision material removal from counterweight faces and non-structural areas of the crankshaft, reducing total rotating mass below a standard billet crank of the same stroke. Lower rotating inertia reduces the energy required to accelerate the engine, improving throttle response and high-RPM behaviour — important in an engine where the target RPM ceiling is elevated as part of the stroker build. Counterweights are knife-edged and profiled to minimise windage losses as the crank rotates through the oil in the crankcase at high RPM. The crankshaft is cross-drilled for optimal oil delivery to rod journals and main journals.
94mm Stroke — 2JZ Stroker Displacement
The OEM 2JZ-GTE uses an 86mm stroke with an 86mm bore for the stock 2,997cc (3.0L) displacement. Increasing the stroke to 94mm with the stock 86mm bore raises displacement to approximately 3,274cc (3.27L) — an 8mm stroke increase that meaningfully raises torque output at all RPM points and increases the engine’s fuelling and airflow requirements proportionally. The 94mm stroke is one of the more aggressive stroke options for the 2JZ platform, requiring careful selection of connecting rod length and piston compression height to achieve the correct deck height and desired compression ratio. A detailed rotating assembly specification — crank stroke, rod length, piston compression height, bore size, and head gasket thickness — must be calculated by your engine builder before parts are ordered.
Honda Rod Journals — 45mm Diameter
The BC5309LW-86’s rod journals are ground to 45mm diameter — the same diameter as Honda B-series and H-series rod journals — rather than the OEM 2JZ-GTE’s 52mm rod journal size. This is a deliberate and well-established modification in the top-level 2JZ build community. The advantages of the Honda journal conversion are significant: 45mm journals have a smaller circumference and therefore lower surface velocity at a given RPM, which reduces bearing heat and wear; and critically, the 45mm journal size is shared with Honda’s performance engines, giving access to the full range of Honda-sized rod bearings from King Engine Bearings, ACL, Clevite/Mahle, and other premium manufacturers. These manufacturers offer the Honda journal size in a wider range of thicknesses, materials (bimetal, trimetal, coated), and tolerance classes than the Toyota 52mm size, giving the engine builder more precise control over oil clearance specification. OEM Toyota 2JZ-GTE rod bearings will not fit this crankshaft — Honda-journal-diameter bearings are required.
Required Rotating Assembly Components
This crankshaft is one component of a complete stroker rotating assembly. Before ordering, confirm with your engine builder:
- Connecting rods — must be specified for the 94mm stroke (correct center-to-center length) and the 45mm Honda rod journal big-end diameter
- Pistons — must be specified for the correct compression height to achieve the desired deck height with the selected rod length and 94mm stroke
- Rod bearings — must be 45mm (Honda journal) diameter; OEM Toyota 2JZ bearings will not fit
- Main bearings — standard 2JZ main bearing size; confirm with BC
- Balancing — the complete rotating assembly (crank, rods, pistons, pins, rings) should be balanced as a set by a qualified machine shop
Stroker crankshaft — complete rotating assembly specification required before ordering. Honda 45mm rod journals — OEM Toyota 2JZ rod bearings will not fit. Professional engine building and machining required. Balance complete rotating assembly before installation. Confirm main and rod journal clearances with precision measuring equipment.
