Brian Crower 4340 Billet Crankshaft – Toyota 2JZ-GTE / 2JZ-GE | 86mm Stock Stroke | Honda Rod Journals | BC5309-86
Stock 86mm stroke — this is a direct stroke-for-stroke replacement for the OEM 2JZ crankshaft, not a stroker crank. Displacement remains at the stock 2,997cc (3.0L).
Rod journals are ground to 45mm (Honda B/H-series diameter) — OEM Toyota 2JZ rod bearings (52mm) will not fit. Honda-journal-sized rod bearings (King, ACL, Clevite in 45mm) are required.
Brian Crower BC5309-86 4340 billet crankshaft for the Toyota 2JZ-GTE and 2JZ-GE. Stock 86mm stroke, 45mm Honda rod journals. Replaces the OEM cast or forged crankshaft with a superior billet unit at the same stroke — the correct choice for a high-power stock-displacement 2JZ build that prioritises material quality and Honda journal bearing access. 70 lbs. Ships fast across Canada and the US.
Why a Billet Crank at Stock Stroke?
The OEM 2JZ-GTE crankshaft is a cast iron or forged steel unit — well-engineered for the stock power output but not designed for the torsional loads, journal surface velocity, and fatigue cycling of a 700–1,000+ hp application. At elevated power levels, OEM crankshafts are a potential failure point — particularly under the sustained high-torque loading of a large turbocharged inline-6 at high boost pressure. The BC5309-86 replaces the OEM crank with a 4340 chromoly steel billet unit machined from a single bar of stock, providing superior material homogeneity, tensile strength, fatigue resistance, and surface finish at the journals. For builders targeting serious power at stock displacement — where bore and stroke are not being changed — a billet crankshaft removes the rotating assembly from the list of potential failure points.
BC5309-86 vs. BC5309LW-86 — Standard vs. LightWeight
Brian Crower offers two billet 2JZ crankshafts at the stock 86mm stroke: the BC5309-86 (this crank) and the BC5309LW-86 (LightWeight). Both use the same 4340 billet material and Honda 45mm rod journals. The LightWeight version undergoes additional precision material removal from counterweight faces and non-structural areas to reduce rotating mass for improved high-RPM response and lower windage — at a higher price point. The BC5309-86 is the correct choice for builds where the primary upgrade is material quality and Honda journal access, and maximum counterweight mass reduction is not a priority. The LW version is specified for builds targeting the highest RPM ceilings or where every reduction in rotating inertia is part of the engine specification.
4340 Billet Construction
The BC5309-86 is machined from a single piece of 4340 chromoly steel billet bar stock. Billet construction provides consistent, isotropic grain structure throughout the part with no seams, voids, or directional grain limitations inherent to cast or conventionally forged crankshafts. 4340 chromoly steel provides the tensile strength, toughness, and fatigue resistance required for the high rotational loads and cylinder pressure forces of a high-power turbocharged inline-6 at serious power levels.
Honda Rod Journals — 45mm Diameter
The BC5309-86’s rod journals are ground to 45mm diameter — the Honda B-series and H-series rod journal size — rather than the OEM 2JZ-GTE’s 52mm. The Honda journal conversion provides access to the full range of 45mm rod bearings from King Engine Bearings, ACL, Clevite/Mahle, and other premium manufacturers, in a wider selection of thicknesses, materials (bimetal, trimetal, coated), and tolerance classes than the Toyota 52mm size. This gives the engine builder more precise control over oil clearance specification and access to better-supported bearing options for long-term engine health at high power levels. OEM Toyota 2JZ-GTE rod bearings will not fit — 45mm Honda-journal bearings are required.
2JZ-GTE and 2JZ-GE Fitment
The BC5309-86 fits both the turbocharged 2JZ-GTE (Supra MK4 JZA80, and GTE-swapped IS300/GS300 applications) and the naturally aspirated 2JZ-GE (IS300, GS300 stock, and GE-based builds). Both engines share the same block architecture and crankshaft dimensions, making this crank compatible across the 2JZ family. GTE applications dominate at this price point, but GE-based high-revving NA builds also benefit from billet crankshaft quality at stock stroke.
Required Components
Confirm with your engine builder before ordering:
- Connecting rods — must have a 45mm big-end bore for the Honda rod journals (standard 2JZ rod length of 136.2mm for stock stroke)
- Rod bearings — must be 45mm (Honda journal) diameter; OEM Toyota 2JZ rod bearings will not fit
- Main bearings — standard 2JZ main bearing size; confirm with Brian Crower
- Balancing — balance the complete rotating assembly as a set after sourcing all components
Stock 86mm stroke — not a stroker crankshaft. Honda 45mm rod journals — OEM Toyota 2JZ rod bearings will not fit. Professional engine building and precision machining required. Balance complete rotating assembly before installation. Confirm main and rod journal clearances before assembly.
