Prothane Body Mount Bushing Kit – Red Polyurethane | 1963–1969 Chevrolet Corvette C2 / C3 | 7-128

Prothane’s red polyurethane body mount bushing kit for the 1963–1969 Chevrolet Corvette — covering the C2 Sting Ray (1963–1967) and the early C3 (1968–1969). Complete kit to replace all factory body-to-frame rubber mounts. 2.5 lbs.

Why Body Mounts Matter

The C2 and C3 Corvette use a fibreglass body mounted to a steel ladder frame via a series of body mount bushings at multiple points along the frame rails. The factory mounts are rubber — compliant and quiet when new, but rubber deteriorates significantly over 50+ years of heat cycling, compression, and exposure. Deteriorated rubber body mounts become soft, compressed, and cracked, allowing the body to shift laterally and vertically on the frame. Symptoms include body rattle and shake, uneven panel gaps, and a generally loose, imprecise feel to the body structure.

Replacing the body mounts is a foundational restoration step for any C2 or C3 — it restores the correct body-to-frame geometry, eliminates rattle, and firms up the body structure. On a performance or track-oriented build, fresh polyurethane mounts also contribute to a more consistent and predictable chassis platform.

Polyurethane vs OEM Rubber

Prothane’s polyurethane body mounts are significantly more durable than rubber replacements. Polyurethane resists compression set, heat cycling, and age-related hardening far better than rubber, maintaining their dimensions and mechanical properties over a much longer service life. The firmer material also provides a more positive body-to-frame connection, reducing body flex. The trade-off is a small increase in NVH transmission compared to rubber — normal and expected with polyurethane mounts.

Red Polyurethane

Prothane’s red polyurethane is their premium formulation, used across their Total Kit and performance bushing range. The red colour won’t be visible once installed — it’s a material and product line designation rather than a cosmetic feature.

Grease & Installation

Prothane polyurethane bushings require lubrication with polyurethane-compatible grease — typically included in the kit. Do not use petroleum-based grease on polyurethane — petroleum products degrade the material and will cause premature failure. Use only supplied Prothane grease or a compatible poly-safe lubricant. Body mount replacement requires raising the body off the frame to access and replace all mount locations — professional installation recommended for those without experience in this procedure.

Fitment

  • 1963–1967 Chevrolet Corvette C2 (Sting Ray) — all body styles
  • 1968–1969 Chevrolet Corvette C3 (Shark)

Verify piece count against your vehicle’s body mount locations before installation. Do not use petroleum-based grease — poly-safe lubricant only. Body must be raised off frame for installation — professional installation recommended. Inspect frame and body mount hardware condition while mounts are replaced.
