Why This Coupler Is Needed

The 9th gen Civic Si cold-air intake is designed around the factory K24Z7 intake manifold’s throttle body port dimensions and position. The Skunk2 Pro Series manifold and Honda’s RBC manifold (a popular OEM upgrade from the Honda Accord) have a different throttle body inlet geometry than the factory Si manifold — the throttle body port diameter or angle differs enough that the factory intake coupler will not seal correctly. Running an unsealed intake connection allows unmetered air to enter the engine downstream of the MAF sensor, causing a lean condition and rough running. This coupler is a required component for the Pro Series or RBC manifold + Skunk2 cold-air intake combination — it is not an optional upgrade.
