Aeromotive 20-Gallon Fuel Cell with Integrated Brushless A1000 Pump – 18361

Universal fitment — no vehicle-specific brackets or mounting hardware included. The 18361 is a self-contained fuel cell and pump assembly requiring custom or fabricated mounting in the intended chassis. Fuel feed, return, vent, and filler neck connections are builder-supplied. A fuel pressure regulator is required and sold separately. Confirm local regulations regarding fuel cell use in road-registered vehicles — this product is designed for competition and track use. E85 and ethanol-blend compatible.

Aeromotive 18361: a complete 20-gallon baffled aluminium fuel cell with an integrated brushless A1000 fuel pump. Designed for high-power EFI builds, forced induction applications, and endurance track programs where fuel system reliability and flow capacity are non-negotiable. The brushless A1000 is rated at approximately 1,000 lb/hr — sufficient to support approximately 900–1,000 hp on gasoline at standard fuel pressure. 31 lbs. Ships fast across Canada and the US.

Aeromotive — Performance Fuel System Benchmark

Aeromotive has been the reference brand for high-performance aftermarket fuel systems for over 25 years. Their pumps, regulators, and fuel cells are used across drag racing, road racing, and high-power street builds globally. The A1000 pump name has been synonymous with serious EFI fuel system builds since the 1990s — the 18361’s brushless A1000 represents the current-generation engineering of that lineage.

Brushless A1000 — Why Brushless Matters

The integrated pump in the 18361 is the brushless version of Aeromotive’s A1000 — a meaningful engineering distinction from conventional brush-type fuel pumps:

  • Brush wear eliminated: Conventional DC fuel pump motors use carbon brushes in contact with a commutator to transfer current to the rotating armature. These brushes wear progressively with use, generating heat and carbon debris, and are the primary failure point in brush-type pumps under sustained high-demand use. The brushless motor replaces this contact system with electronic commutation — no wear surfaces, no carbon contamination of fuel.
  • Lower operating temperature: Brushless motors generate significantly less heat than brush-type motors at equivalent load. In a fuel pump context, lower operating temperature reduces fuel vapour formation, improves pump efficiency, and protects the motor under sustained WOT conditions — critical for endurance racing and repeated drag passes where a brush-type pump would be stressed.
  • Reduced current draw: Brushless motors convert electrical energy to mechanical work more efficiently than brush-type motors — delivering the same or greater fuel flow for lower amperage draw. Relevant for builds where electrical system load is managed carefully (race wiring, alternator capacity).
  • Extended service life: The combination of no brush wear and lower operating temperatures results in dramatically extended pump service life vs brush-type equivalents — important for track programs where reliability across an event weekend or season is critical.
  • Flow capacity: Approximately 1,000 lb/hr at standard fuel pressure (43.5 PSI) on gasoline. This supports approximately 900–1,000 hp on gasoline, or proportionally less on E85 (which requires approximately 30–35% more fuel volume for the same power output). For E85 builds in the 600–700 hp range, the A1000’s flow capacity remains adequate.

20-Gallon Baffled Aluminium Cell

The fuel cell is welded aluminium construction with internal baffling:

  • Internal baffling: The cell’s internal baffles prevent fuel from surging away from the pump pickup under hard cornering, braking, and acceleration. Without baffling, fuel sloshes to the far side of the tank under lateral and longitudinal g-forces — uncovering the pump pickup and causing fuel starvation at the worst possible moment. Aeromotive’s baffled cells maintain pump submersion under sustained high-g track conditions.
  • 20-gallon capacity: Appropriate for endurance track sessions, time attack events with extended run time, or street/strip builds where range is a priority alongside fuel system performance. 20 US gallons = approximately 75.7 litres.
  • Aluminium construction: Welded aluminium is resistant to degradation from gasoline, E85, and ethanol blends. Lighter than steel equivalents and resistant to corrosion.
  • E85 / ethanol compatibility: Both the aluminium cell and brushless A1000 pump are compatible with E85 and high-ethanol fuel blends — appropriate for flex fuel and dedicated E85 builds where conventional rubber-lined tanks and brush-type pumps may degrade.

System Requirements — Sold Separately

The 18361 is the cell and pump assembly — a complete fuel system installation requires:

  • Fuel pressure regulator: Required to set and maintain operating fuel pressure for the EFI system. Aeromotive’s regulators (e.g. 13301 or compatible) are the recommended pairing for AN-based fuel systems.
  • AN fuel line: Feed and return lines connecting the cell to the engine’s fuel rail and regulator. Line sizing should match the A1000’s port dimensions — typically -10AN feed, -6AN return.
  • Filler neck and vent: Filler neck routing and vent line are builder-supplied and chassis-specific.
  • Mounting hardware: No vehicle-specific brackets included — mounting straps, tabs, or a fabricated cradle are required for chassis installation.

Universal — no mounting hardware included. Regulator and fuel lines sold separately. E85 compatible. Brushless A1000 — approx. 1,000 lb/hr. 20-gallon baffled aluminium cell. Competition and track use — confirm road registration regulations for your jurisdiction.
