COMP Cams XFI Hydraulic Roller Camshaft – GM LS1 / LS6 | 270° Advertised Duration | Fuel Injection Optimised | 54-500-11
Unlock the full performance potential of your GM LS1 or LS6 with the COMP Cams XFI (Xtreme Fuel Injection) hydraulic roller camshaft — engineered specifically for fuel-injected LS applications where the ECU and fuel delivery system play a critical role in realising cam performance gains. The XFI series is COMP Cams’ dedicated fuel injection-optimised cam line, with lobe profiles and duration specifications selected to work within the operating parameters of the factory and aftermarket LS ECU — delivering strong street/strip performance gains without the idle quality and drivability compromises that can come from cams designed for carbureted applications.
XFI – Why Fuel Injection Optimisation Matters for LS Cams
The LS engine’s fuel injection system — whether factory MAF-based or aftermarket — uses airflow and RPM data to calculate fuel delivery and ignition timing. Aggressive cam profiles with very high duration and overlap can confuse the factory MAF sensor and ECU, causing poor idle quality, rough cold starts, and difficulty tuning. COMP Cams’ XFI series is specifically profiled to minimise these issues — delivering aggressive performance gains while remaining more compatible with fuel injection tuning than equivalent carbureted cam profiles. An ECU tune is still required, but the XFI profile makes the tuning process more straightforward.
Key Features
- XFI Lobe Profile – EFI Optimised: The XFI lobe profile is engineered for fuel-injected LS applications — with duration and overlap specifications selected to work within the operating parameters of the LS ECU and MAF-based fuel delivery system. Delivers strong mid-to-upper RPM power gains while maintaining better idle quality and cold-start behaviour than equivalent carbureted cam profiles
- 270° Advertised Duration: 270° advertised duration places this cam in the performance street/strip range for LS applications — providing strong mid-to-upper RPM power with a noticeable performance cam idle character. Suitable for modified LS1/LS6 engines with supporting cylinder head, intake, and exhaust modifications. Verify this duration is appropriate for your specific build targets and supporting components before ordering
- Hydraulic Roller Lobe: Roller lifter compatibility eliminates the sliding friction of flat-tappet cams, allowing more aggressive lobe profiles with faster ramp rates. Hydraulic operation eliminates the need for periodic valve lash adjustment. The LS engine family uses a hydraulic roller valvetrain from the factory, making hydraulic roller cam upgrades a direct-fit replacement for the OEM cam
- LS1 / LS6 Platform Fitment: The LS1 and LS6 share the same cam journal dimensions and firing order — this cam fits both engine variants directly. The LS1 (5.7L, 345 HP factory) was used in the 1998–2002 Camaro SS, Firebird/Trans Am, and Corvette C5. The LS6 (5.7L, 385–405 HP factory) was used in the 2001–2004 Corvette C5 Z06 and 2004–2005 Cadillac CTS-V
- COMP Cams Quality: COMP Cams is one of the most respected camshaft manufacturers in the performance aftermarket — with decades of experience in cam design, metallurgy, and lobe profile engineering for street, strip, and racing applications
Recommended Supporting Modifications
- Upgraded valve springs rated for the cam’s lift and RPM range — consult COMP Cams’ cam card for spring specifications (factory LS valve springs are typically not adequate for performance cam upgrades)
- Matching hydraulic roller lifters if replacing OEM lifters (recommended on high-mileage engines)
- Pushrods of the correct length for your specific head and block combination
- ECU retune — mandatory after cam installation on any fuel-injected LS. Do not drive on the factory tune with an aftermarket cam installed
- Performance intake manifold, cylinder heads, and exhaust to maximise the cam’s potential
- Timing chain and cam phaser lock-out (if applicable) — consult your tuner
Fitment
- GM LS1 5.7L — Chevrolet Camaro SS (1998–2002)
- GM LS1 5.7L — Pontiac Firebird / Trans Am (1998–2002)
- GM LS1 5.7L — Chevrolet Corvette C5 (1997–2004)
- GM LS6 5.7L — Chevrolet Corvette C5 Z06 (2001–2004)
- GM LS6 5.7L — Cadillac CTS-V (2004–2005)

Note: ECU retune is mandatory after cam installation — do not drive on the factory tune with an aftermarket cam. Valve spring upgrade is required — factory LS springs are not adequate for most performance cam profiles. Degree the camshaft during installation to verify correct installed centerline. A complete cam installation requires matching lifters, correct-length pushrods, and appropriate valve springs — consult COMP Cams’ cam card for the full supporting component list.
