Competition Clutch Stage 4 — Six-Puck Ceramic

Competition Clutch’s Stage system runs from Stage 1 (OEM-spec upgrade) through Stage 5 (full race). Stage 4 represents the top of the street-adjacent performance range — engineered for maximum torque capacity and heat resistance rather than streetable engagement feel. The six-puck (six-pad) ceramic disc replaces the full-face friction surface with six ceramic compound pads bonded to a rigid disc hub. Ceramic compound provides significantly higher heat resistance and clamping load capacity than organic, Kevlar, or even Stage 3 compounds — appropriate for applications involving repeated hard launches, sustained high-torque loading, or extreme operating temperatures generated in competition.

Six-Puck Engagement Characteristics

The six-puck design engages abruptly compared to a full-face disc — the reduced contact area means there is little slip or progressive engagement at the friction zone. Expect clutch chatter at low-speed engagement and a sharp, defined engagement point rather than a smooth, progressive pedal feel. These are normal and expected characteristics of a six-puck ceramic clutch, not defects. For truck pulling, drag racing, or off-road competition where smooth engagement is not required and maximum holding capacity is the priority, the Stage 4 is the correct choice. For street-driven trucks used in daily driving conditions, a Stage 2 or Stage 3 with a full-face disc is the appropriate selection.

Flywheel Note

Ceramic friction compounds are more abrasive than organic materials. Flywheel resurfacing or replacement is recommended at each clutch service interval — do not install a ceramic clutch against a worn or previously heat-damaged flywheel surface. Confirm flywheel condition and have it resurfaced before installation.
