When to Choose 2X Thick Over Standard

The standard GrimmSpeed manifold-to-uppipe gasket (025001, sold as pair) is the correct choice for most service applications where the flange surfaces are in good condition. The 027001 2X thick gasket is the appropriate choice when:

• Flange warping: The manifold or uppipe flange has developed a bow or warp from sustained heat cycling — common on high-mileage or repeatedly heat-stressed EJ manifolds. A warped flange creates an uneven sealing surface that a standard-thickness gasket cannot bridge, resulting in repeat exhaust leaks. The additional compressed thickness of the 2X gasket provides more material to conform across the gap.
• Surface damage: Corrosion pitting, machining marks, or mechanical damage on the flange face that prevents a standard gasket from sealing cleanly.
• Repeat failure: A standard-thickness gasket has been installed and failed at the same location — often an indicator that the flange condition requires a thicker gasket rather than a repeat standard replacement.

If your flanges are in good condition and you are doing a routine crosspipe or manifold service, the GrimmSpeed 025001 pair is the standard recommendation. If there is any doubt about flange condition, the 027001 is the higher-confidence choice.
