Why Replace the OEM VB WRX Charge Pipes

The 2022+ VB WRX’s factory charge pipe system uses plastic piping for the intercooler circuit. On a stock or lightly modified WRX, the OEM plastic pipes function adequately within factory boost targets. Under elevated boost from a tune, aggressive Accessport map, or supporting modifications, the OEM plastic charge pipes are a documented weak point. Plastic charge pipes can crack at stress points, split at coupler joints under sustained boost pressure, or fail suddenly under a boost spike — causing an immediate boost loss, potential lean fuel condition, and engine protection events. Replacing with aluminium pipes eliminates the material failure mode. Aluminium piping maintains dimensional stability under heat and pressure, does not crack or fatigue in the same way as plastic, and retains a positive boost-pressure seal when properly clamped with quality silicone couplers.

This kit includes red silicone couplers throughout. Red is the classic performance engine bay colour — high visibility and a traditional motorsport aesthetic that pairs well with brushed or polished aluminium piping. Silicone couplers provide flexible, heat-resistant, and boost-pressure-rated connections at each pipe junction, accommodating minor misalignment and thermal expansion while maintaining a positive seal. FA24DIT — VB WRX Platform Context

The 2022+ WRX introduced the FA24DIT — a 2.4L direct-injected turbocharged boxer replacing the FA20DIT of the VA generation. The FA24DIT’s charge pipe routing and intercooler configuration differ from the previous generation, making GrimmSpeed’s VB-specific kit (113083RED) not interchangeable with their VA WRX charge pipe offerings. Commonly installed alongside a COBB Accessport tune, downpipe, and intake for maximum benefit from the improved boost retention.
