On the Subaru EJ turbo engine, the exhaust path from each cylinder bank’s manifold connects to a crosspipe (also called the uppipe) through a flanged joint. There are two of these joints — one per cylinder bank — which is why this gasket is sold as a pair. The crosspipe then routes the combined exhaust stream up to the turbo’s turbine housing inlet, where a separate gasket (the uppipe-to-turbo gasket, GrimmSpeed 024001) seals that final junction. The GrimmSpeed 025001 covers the manifold-to-crosspipe end; the 024001 covers the crosspipe-to-turbo end. For a complete crosspipe/uppipe service, both gasket sets are typically required.

The EJ boxer engine has two cylinder banks and two exhaust manifolds, each connecting to the crosspipe at its own flanged joint. The 025001 is sold as a pair to cover both LH and RH manifold-to-crosspipe junctions in a single purchase. Do not assume a single gasket is sufficient for a full crosspipe replacement or manifold removal — both joints must be sealed.

Replace these gaskets during: crosspipe/uppipe replacement (aftermarket uppipe installation is one of the most common EJ modifications — the OEM uppipe’s catalytic converter is a flow restriction and boost leak point), exhaust manifold removal, exhaust leak diagnosis at the manifold-to-crosspipe junction, and engine rebuild. Best practice: always install new gaskets when any manifold or crosspipe flange is separated.
