Industrial Injection’s Big Iron pan is built from heavier-gauge stamped steel than the factory Cummins oil pan. The factory pan uses adequate-gauge steel for normal operation but is susceptible to seam weld cracking, drain plug thread wear, and impact damage on trucks used in demanding conditions — sustained towing, off-road use, or high-mileage commercial applications where the engine runs at elevated temperatures and load for extended periods. The Big Iron pan’s heavier gauge construction is more resistant to impact damage from road debris and provides stronger drain plug thread engagement that holds up through repeated service intervals.

Increased Oil Capacity

The Big Iron pan typically provides increased oil capacity over the factory pan, which benefits the 5.9L and 6.7L Cummins in sustained high-load operation. Greater oil volume reduces thermal loading on the oil — more oil in the system means the oil temperature rises more slowly under sustained towing or heavy load, extending the oil’s effective service life between changes and providing a larger reserve if a minor seep develops before the next service interval. 5.9L and 6.7L Common Rail Fitment

The Cummins 5.9L Common Rail (2003–2007, 3rd gen Ram 2500/3500) and 6.7L ISB (2007.5–2018, 4th gen Ram 2500/3500) share compatible oil pan mounting geometry — the BICR5967OPMS fits both engine families. This does not apply to the earlier 5.9L 12-valve (1989–1998) or 24-valve non-Common Rail (1998.5–2002) engines, which use a different block and pan configuration.
