Why Stainless Braided Brake Lines
OEM rubber brake lines expand slightly under brake pressure, absorbing some of the hydraulic force intended for the calipers. This expansion is most noticeable under hard braking — the pedal feels soft or spongy relative to the actual braking force being generated. Stainless steel braided lines use a PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) inner liner wrapped in a stainless steel outer braid. The stainless braid resists expansion under pressure, transmitting more of the hydraulic force directly to the calipers. The result is a firmer, more linear pedal feel and more consistent braking response — particularly noticeable during track use or repeated hard stops where OEM rubber lines can degrade in feel as they heat cycle. The Miata’s lightweight and balance make it especially responsive to braking improvements — stainless lines are one of the first safety and performance upgrades for any Miata used on track.
