Why High-Lift Hood Brackets?

The OEM VA WRX and STI hood prop rod holds the hood open at a relatively low angle — functional for basic checks but restrictive when working around the turbocharger, top-mount intercooler, intake, or other components that require overhead clearance. The OEM prop rod also requires manual placement each time the hood is opened. PERRIN’s high-lift brackets replace the prop rod entirely with a pair of billet aluminium lift supports that hold the hood open at a significantly greater angle — giving full overhead clearance across the entire engine bay width. Open the hood and it stays open, hands-free, at the correct angle for service work. The difference is immediately apparent on the first oil change or intercooler inspection.

Billet Aluminium — Black Anodized

The PSP-BDY-011BK brackets are machined from billet aluminium and finished in black anodize — PERRIN’s standard finish for their black product line. The black anodized finish resists corrosion, holds up to engine bay heat cycling and fluid exposure, and integrates cleanly with black engine bay components and covers common on built WRX and STI engines. PERRIN also offers these brackets in other anodized colours on separate part numbers — the BK suffix designates black specifically.

Direct Replacement — No Drilling Required

The PSP-BDY-011BK installs using the existing OEM hood hinge mounting points on the VA chassis — no drilling, cutting, or modification to the hood or body. All required hardware is included. Installation is straightforward and does not require professional assistance, though familiarity with the WRX/STI engine bay is helpful.

VA Chassis Fitment — 2015–2021 Only

The PSP-BDY-011BK fits the VA-body Subaru WRX (2015–2021) and WRX STI (2015–2021) — the full production run of the VA generation. This product does not fit the 2022+ Subaru WRX (VB chassis), which uses a different body structure and hood hinge geometry. Confirm your model year before ordering.
