TiAL Sport MVS — 38mm External Wastegate

TiAL Sport is the benchmark manufacturer for external wastegates in high-performance turbo applications — used in factory motorsport programs and top-tier aftermarket builds globally. The MVS is TiAL’s 38mm external wastegate, the most widely used model in the TiAL lineup for street-performance and modified turbo builds. The 38mm valve diameter provides sufficient exhaust bypass flow for most single-turbo applications targeting moderate to high power levels, with precise boost control that internal (integral) wastegate actuators cannot match at elevated boost pressures.

External Wastegate — How It Works

An external wastegate mounts to a dedicated port on the exhaust manifold, separate from the turbocharger itself. When boost pressure reaches the wastegate’s set point (determined by the spring rate or boost controller signal), the valve opens and routes exhaust gases directly to the wastegate outlet — bypassing the turbine wheel and reducing turbine speed, which caps boost pressure. Because the external gate is a separate, dedicated unit with its own large valve and housing, it can flow significantly more exhaust volume than an internal actuator, enabling more accurate boost control and better boost stability at high flow rates. External wastegates are the standard for any serious performance build running elevated boost or requiring precise boost management.

All Springs Included

TiAL ships the MVS with their complete spring assortment, covering a range of base boost pressure settings from approximately 5 psi to 18+ psi depending on spring combination. The base boost pressure (the pressure at which the gate begins to open without a boost controller signal) is set by the installed spring. Multiple spring rates allow the wastegate to be configured for the build’s target base boost without purchasing additional springs separately. A boost controller (manual or electronic) can raise boost above the spring’s base pressure.

V-Band Clamps Included

The MVS uses V-band (Vee-band) connections at both the inlet (manifold flange) and outlet (dump tube/merge flange). V-band clamps for both connections are included — no separate clamp purchase required. V-band provides a strong, leak-resistant seal and is faster to assemble and disassemble than bolted flanges, simplifying installation and future service access.

Universal Application

The MVS requires a TiAL MVS-compatible wastegate port and flange on the exhaust manifold. This is not a bolt-on for stock exhaust manifolds — a custom or aftermarket manifold with the appropriate TiAL MVS inlet flange is required. The wastegate outlet must be plumbed to a dump tube (venting to atmosphere) or merged back into the downpipe/exhaust. Confirm manifold compatibility and outlet routing before ordering.
