Ticon Industries CP1 Titanium TIG Filler Rod – 1.5mm (0.059") | 39" | 1/4 lb | 110-00001-0002
CP Grade 1 commercially pure titanium TIG filler rod. 1.5mm diameter, 39-inch (1-metre) cut length, 1/4 lb pack. For TIG welding commercially pure (CP) titanium sheet, tube, and exhaust components.
Ticon Industries 110-00001-0002 CP1 titanium TIG filler rod in 1.5mm diameter. CP Grade 1 — highest purity, most ductile, and most weldable grade of commercially pure titanium. Appropriate for TIG welding CP titanium exhaust tubing, heat shields, and lightweight fabrication components. 39-inch (approximately 1 metre) standard TIG rod cut length, sold in 1/4 lb quantity. Ships fast across Canada and the US.
CP1 — Commercially Pure Grade 1 Titanium
CP1 designates Commercially Pure Grade 1 titanium — the purest and most ductile of the four commercially pure titanium grades. Grade 1 has the lowest oxygen and iron content of the CP grades, giving it the highest corrosion resistance, best formability, and easiest weldability. For TIG welding CP titanium exhaust components, heat shields, and thin-wall tubing — the material most commonly used in motorsport and performance exhaust fabrication — CP1 filler rod is the standard and correct choice. Note: CP1 filler rod is intended for welding CP titanium base material. For welding titanium alloys such as Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V / 6-4), a matched alloy filler rod may be required — confirm filler grade compatibility with your base material before ordering.
TIG Welding — Shielding and Purging Requirements
Titanium must be welded using the TIG (GTAW) process with 100% argon shielding gas. Unlike steel, titanium is highly reactive to oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen at welding temperatures — even brief atmospheric contamination during or immediately after welding causes oxidation (colour change beyond light straw/gold) and embrittlement of the weld zone. Proper titanium TIG welding requires a trailing gas shield on the torch side and back-purging of the weld interior (inside diameter of tubing) with argon to exclude all atmospheric gases until the weld has cooled below approximately 427°C (800°F). Weld colour is the primary indicator of shielding quality: silver/light straw = good, gold = acceptable, blue/grey/white = contaminated. If you are new to titanium welding, additional resources on purge setup and torch technique are strongly recommended before welding with this rod.
1.5mm Diameter — Application
1.5mm (0.059") is a standard TIG filler rod diameter appropriate for thin-wall titanium tubing and sheet typical of motorsport exhaust fabrication — including header primaries, collector sections, and exhaust tubing in wall thicknesses from approximately 0.035" (0.9mm) to 0.065" (1.65mm). Match filler rod diameter to base material wall thickness and joint design — thicker wall sections may benefit from a larger diameter filler for improved deposition rate.
Pack Specification
Sold in 1/4 lb quantity of 39-inch (approximately 1 metre) cut rods — the standard TIG filler rod cut length. Ticon Industries also offers this rod in additional diameters and pack weights on separate listings.
TIG welding only — requires 100% argon shielding and back-purging. For CP titanium base material — confirm filler grade compatibility with your specific base material before ordering. Proper shielding technique required to achieve sound, uncontaminated titanium welds.
