Why You Need a Boost Reference Adapter
The 2015+ EcoBoost Mustang’s factory boost reference circuit is used by the OEM diverter valve and boost/MAP sensing system. The factory boost reference ports are not designed with a secondary outlet for aftermarket accessories. Installing an aftermarket BOV, external boost gauge, boost controller, or any component requiring a boost reference signal on the EcoBoost Mustang requires tapping into the boost reference circuit. Doing this incorrectly — by cutting into factory boost lines, using generic T-fittings on OEM hoses, or disturbing the factory sensor reference ports — can cause boost leaks at the junction, alter the boost reference signal reaching the factory sensors (causing incorrect ECU readings, boost control instability, or fault codes), or create a leak point in the charge system that results in lost boost pressure under load.
